Skynet is taking over!

First: We don't use our CMS on this site for testing. That's nonsense. We build this CMS to provide an integrated shop, forum, payment, invoice generation, forum, administration, multilinguality, picture management, user management and many more things in one solution. We are also free to add things if we want to. Same goes for Visionaire Studio as well... or we could have said "Use AGS", 10 years ago. wink But we didn't do that and started to work on our own engine.

We have a brilliant solition here and a beautiful page. For sure there are things to come or things that need adjustment - same goes for Visionaire Studio again. It's that easy... and the discussion about it is kind of unnessessary.

The spam problems should be solved for now. We will see. What did we do? I won't tell... wink Some parts of the answer could frighten you grin (to say it in the words of a popular german minister)
It is a test of sorts as we are the ones that mention when something is broken. & yes overall it looks nice & most features work as they are supposed to work, but as you say, it's lacking some of the features you get with most standard forum cms, such as easily recognizable board categories & the moderator based permission classes.

Glad to hear that the spambo nonsense should hopefully be resolved as it's been ridiculous as of late. I used to get the odd one on my old forum - was always something about fake prada/gucci bags or something, but they never mass posted like these spammers have been doing. I still can't believe the cheek of that one that replied to my private message with "no hard feelings" :shakeshark: -- good point. Now the spam is sorted can someone please add the shakeshark emoticon to the emoji database. Cheers. wink

P.S: it can be found here: http://taimotive.deviantart.com/art/shakeshark-31088467 - there's actually a bunch of shake emoticons on that account.

Oh yiss! (Paradigm) The bots are back! The bots are back! So much for the super-secret anti-spam prevention. You really need to think in terms of actual human spam prevention. I liked the idea of making the registration more complicated by adding in a questionaire of sorts that's about VS or game dev in general or even about point & click games - stuff people can google or should already know.

maybe if its ok with the team we should open a separate topic or even write them PMs with ideas on what could be approved within the (their)  forum + cms software. Most stuff we users mention are already known and i guess the VS team is mostly aware of the pointed out "flaws".

Regarding the spammers i assume that sooner or later we will need either some people who will be able to delete those topics beside the Vs team (as already mentioned by AFRLme) or prevent these posts by either restrict the posting ability of a user under specific circumatances (new user, etc)  or prevent the regsistration with some mechanics....Well lets see what time comes up with smile

Obviously we still have problems with spam. Sorry for that. It's up to calli/simon to fix it. We already discussed it and I hope they will get to it quickly.

@Sebastian: You are always welcome to send ideas. Please just keep in mind that our resources are limited and we have many construction sites everywhere... especially with Visionaire itself smile

So, we have moderators now who can easily delete spam posts, as soon as they are posted. The users will be banned then and their posts will be deleted.

So - to the spammers - keep posting if you have too much time smile

    Great! Thanks!
I hope I won't be banned as spam bot if I write "Viagra CHEAP! CHEAP!" and "buy gold from Nigera. Please send the money to account number..."... wink

I forgot: it is usually full of spelling mistakes... wink wink

I'm pretty sure there's a spelling mistake or two in what you just wrote. Banned! grin

I mostly have problems with tenses and grammar and building correct English sentences. My word spelling is PERFECT, I use a dictionary... wink

I am going to look into your 5487 posts and I will find one or two spelling mistakes and you will be banned also... wink

Because I'm a hidden spam bot I have too much time to do this. And I check out your personal profile. And I check out where your car parks...

Good luck with that. I don't have a car! grin

You said Nigera instead of Nigeria, but yes you are correct. Those spam emails about someone wanting to give you x amount of money are often full of spelling & grammar mistakes.

The spam posts we've been getting lately on here are also full of spelling & grammar mistakes which is strange when you consider the majority of what is posted is likely copy/pasted from a template someone provided the human spammers with. You would think they would get someone who is near fluent in English to sort out the templates to make them appear more authentic & sincere rather than looking like some illiterate melon from x country who barely speaks a word of English let alone formal English wrote it.

My post count is pretty ridiculous. You know we've made between us around 4000 posts on the VS discord server already. About 50% of the posts were probably made by me. Some things never change I guess...

I wrote a German novel and use the Google translator to translate some chapters into English (https://littlebluemonster.deviantart.com/art/A-Centauress-Lo...).

It was amazing. Some years ago an online translator was only a joke, but today I have to look very close to find mistakes! The translator has problems with German idioms (not astonishing) and with gender (because English hasn't any word gender) and unknown words (of course), but the translator completes missing words and I believe it is THINKING about what is the correct part wink If I use the same German word three times the translator use three different words for them! It works with abstracts (ganze Absätze) and looks after the meaning.

OK, the result isn't really "English". It is still "German"-like. Some wording sounds ridiculous and wrong. Translating doesn't mean to find the correct words, it is "thinking" like the language and using mother-tongue constructs. Google translator is very useful to translate non-fictional texts.

I think it's like chess: if the AI has billions of moves it will be better than human (do you remember the duell between Kasparov - or Karpov? - and the "deep" engine)? It's not important if the engine knows what happens - it's only important it makes it's job  perfectly and quick...

I can fit the correct grammar into the Google translator and it will learn! After billions of "correct" sentences it will remind the correct one. Unbelievable...

I'm not very savvy on chess. I can play checkers. Chess is a bit too complicated & long winded for me. I lack the patience for it.

Anyway, have you tried using bing translator? I find it works a little better than google translator. The online translator tend to translate words rather than sentences, which is why the grammar & structure is often a little off. For some reason a lot of languages have words in a different order than what we would have it in in English. Spanish for example often has words tacked onto the end of a sentence, whereas in English we would probably say those same words at the beginning of the sentence & then as you said, there's the feminine, masculine, neutral thing that other languages have. English is a whole other beast compared to other languages because we have so many different words that mean the same thing or something entirely different depending on the context in which the words are used. We also have strange ways of spelling words, with quite a few words containing silent letters or being said completely differently from how they are spelled.
