Anticipation of 4.0 - whats to come?

  • #1, by lefooshMonday, 24. March 2014, 18:08 10 years ago
With all this talk of the next update coming in a matter of days / a week now I can't be the only one who's getting excited about the potential!

Can anyone set out exactly what we can expect?

    Thanks,

Yours, potentially might wee a little in anticipation,

Yeah, same here. Waiting desperatly for some (good) news!

Of course I want you guys to be working on the next release instead of typing a road map, but a little peek would be awsome! :-)

I guess it was already mentioned in a few other threads wink
    * Full Mac OS X support (editor and player).
    * experimental support for mobile platforms (iOS and android).
    * better performance, less memory consumption.
    * 3d-model characters: we probably need more user feedback for this, it's quite hard to get working animations. this is mainly because we rely on an opensource lib (assimp) which can't handle every format, or other 3d tools don't stay to the spec all the time when exporting 3d models.

and much more. detailed release notes will be published together with the release.

release will be next week, hopefully Monday (so release is still in March smile ). Version will be released as Beta, just in case. It works stable for me (Windows) but maybe there are minor bugs left.

few other things... seeing as Alex has posted a some stuff already.

    smoother character scaling.
updated walk system with 2 available options. (3 if count 3D characters)

    • slide: this slides the animation between each frame movement value - similar to current walk system; good for vehicles etc...
    • reposition: this updates character position; more realistic & characters don't seem to vibrate/stutter - far as I've been able to see so far.

save game thumbnails are no longer set to always on top. you can now layer images & animations etc over them.
cross platform sound engine & new lua commands for additional control
    various new lua commands/functions
    loads of bug fixes
    & so on...

    from what I've seen.

\o/ Amazingly awesome. Scaling factor accessible? We need to purchase new license? What's the cost?

    scaling factor?

the scaling factor is not the actual character scale value, it is the global scale factor set in the character options tab. VCharacterSize is the current scale value of linked character & is now accessed via getFloat as opposed to getInt.

I'm not sure if license is staying at €35 or not. I don't know if license plans will be updated or not. Alex?

yes because it's a .0 edition. 3.0-3.9. once you purchase limited license for 4.0 you will get all updates between 4.0 & 4.9 for free.
