Really impressive! But for me this is all too realistic. At this point you may as well use a photograph.
I prefer the middle style "realistic but not too much"  grin

Yeah learn 3D modelling take long time and you must have lot of patience Lol grin

I think the point was for it to look realistic. It does say photorealistic in the title! wink

The sort of 3D graphics I like are the cellshaded/toon type ones like in The Wolf Among Us or Bioshock Infinite, for example. They look a lot more interesting to me than photorealistic graphics when it comes to style, but realistic graphics better suit certain types of games more than 3D graphics with artistic license.

    Of Course, Firewatch !
That would be a Prime-Example of a First-Person Game with a lot of Character Interactions. Even if it is in the Genre of "walking Simulator". Darn, How could I have forgotten about that one.

Honestly, I dont get why people always want more and more realistic Graphics. They dont age well and then there is the Uncanny Valley Problem. Then you look at a Style like TF2, which is more than 10 Years old and still looks pretty good.

Well it's cartoony & fun to look at, just like Overwatch graphics. However, Team Fortress 2 from my understanding has been graphically overhauled over the years. Pretty sure I saw some comparison image somewhere recently comparing when it came out to now - or maybe it was something else I saw. Bloody memory. roll

Oh Bioschock! You get the point! I love this kind of graphic, soft and smooth and, of course, not so realistic smile

Yes, I understood this eheh! I think this could be a look in the future VR tecnologies... and I don't like it too much. wink
Have you ever seen this movie? This is my fear about "too much reality" grin

Yes, I've watched that movie. From what I recall it wasn't that great? grin

& yes, I understood the sort of graphics. I like the stylistic 3D graphics more than realistic, however for point & click games I wish they would 100% remain 2D whether hand drawn/painted or pixel as 3D spoiled the genre back in the late 90's. I'm pretty sure that's the reason why the genre dwindled away because of all the terrible 3D point & click games that looked & played absolutely terrible. Simon 3D anyone?

Not so great I agree, I was talking about the dark side of VR  grin

I totally agree! Syberia 3 in real-time 3D ... an incredible flop! Gamers hated it smile

A little off topic but this short movie, can explain what I mean about VR. Don't take me wrong, I'm in love with this wonderful short movie smile

I think, too much realism depends on the topic also. Games like Myst can't be superrealistic, because the player recognize the Fantasy. Second: realism is created by sublevel impressions, first: light. The light in Myst or often in egoshooters also isn't real. Gamers don't think about that, but remark it unconsciously. This lights - also in concept art - have the function to give structure, make things visible, show or hide, set emotions. The lights aren't physically correct. It's similar to great paintings, Dutch or Italian, which are more art than realism. I can't describe this in English, maybe with an example from The Last of Us artwork.

Watch some very realistic games: f.e. there is a dark place, maybe a court. The moonlight lights (?) the house. The shadow of the house falls into the court. In reality the court must be dark. But in art you will see some bright things, because the dark area is only a black hole and looks bad, so the artist makes you believe that the moonlight shows waste boxes, reflexions of bottles, newspapers, wet stones. It could be, but in most cases not. Great artists makes it plausible, but in reality the court would be... dark.

Lol grin Yeah it's true. I perfectly understand what you mean.

Often lights and shadows are wrong but necessary to create the mood in the game.
Gamers don't care of it... and this is good for artists wink
Think for example to those who stand to make recriminations on the artistic style of a game.
".. but the light of the sun is wrong!"
".. but in the night the sky is not blue is black!"
".. but the sun rays are not visible in reality!"
".. but the colours in reality are not so desaturated!"
".. but in reality I can see the far  landscape and is not so blurred!"
    and so on ....
It doesn't make sense, because you should at least respect the artist's stylistic choices and  technical needs .
At this point you might as well put some photo as backgrounds and you're ok with all of this damn recriminations ... but players don't like this kind of photographic games, so ....  wink

Off topic : did you know what happened to the forum these days?
