Which kind of Inventory to you prefer?

  • #1, by marvel 9 years ago Zitieren
    Hey guys,
this is a question about your preferred inventory design.

Do you prefer a classic "big bag" (over the whole screen) like in Deponia or Monkey Island 3? Or do you prefer an inventory in the "footer" of the screen - maybe on a black footer bar like in Black Mirror?

    What do you think? smile

I think it depends on the game. Take Broken Sword 1 & 2 verus the remastered/director's cut versions. In the original games the inventory & dialog options were done at the top &/or bottom of the screen in the black bar bits, whereas the remasters had an interface that popped up over the scene. Personally I preferred the interface in the orignal version of the games, but I did like the new comic book style overlay for the character conversations with the avatars/speech bubbles.

My preference is minimal & simple, but this question is more down to what suits each specific game from an artistic perspective rather than personal preference.

A black footer bar like in Black Mirror, hidden when not needed,  is my favorite grin

I prefer minimal style for inventory. Simple black bar will do smile

i really like the little one more, because it doesnt "pause" the game as the bag does, however, if you have dozens of items like deponia you dont have much choice i guess

I used to prefer the big bag way but I'd probably go for  something that hides at the bottom these days

@Thomas: you should consider looking into creating a poll system for your forum. smile

I would love to have a poll. Give me some additional programmers, and everything will be possible wink

I am opting for a classic style as well. I do agree that this depends on the game however. If your game has a lot of items to the point where it gets annoying to cycle them, it may be better to use the Deponia-Style. I prefer the classic one. It does not distract you from the puzzles in each scene.

You can probably find some decent existing ones floating around on the web mate. Nothing wrong with using other peoples modules.

I'm pretty sure Calli would be able to whip one up with a bit of php & mySQL. Something to consider for the future I guess.
