What is the Optimal Screen Resolution?

Yeap, could be easier with Adventuresoft, although they still make money out of their games, so they'll want a big piece of the pie to say the least wink

PS. 20 pounds for Simon 3D???

That website probably hasn't been touched for years? All 3 Simon games by Adventuresoft are about €5 each when not on sale.

Because my screen has 1280 pixel it's important not to use more. For widescreen 16:9 I have to use 1280 x 720 pixel.

What do you mean because your screen has 1280 pixels it's important not to use more? You can work on a 1920x1080 game or a game of any resolution regardless of your monitor size.

It makes no sense to  have a game 2000 px width if the screen is only 1280 width... wink
A bigger player window you can't resize and otherwise the games is bigger than you can see... wink

You are designing a game using a 1280 px screen?! Hmmm, nowadays even 5" smartphones feature 1920x1080, i think you should just go out and grab a new screen asap!!

The scene becomes scrollable if the background is larger than the default resolution - in both game & editor.

& yes, as atrus says, I highly recommend looking into buying a hd monitor. You can get 23 or 24" native 1080p monitor for around €100 easy if you don't mind it not having built in speakers or IPS (better viewing angle). That's what I did as I got tired of looking at my laptop monitor. Probably one of the best purchases I made as I use it for playing games on, working & watching my TV shows. I even used it for my xbox 360 at one point - before I built my current pc.

What do you want to see on  such a little display? The white color in the enemy's eye??
    That's adventure, not ego-shooter... wink
If the screen is DIN A 2 - ok, you maybe need it. But on 1280 I have problems soon to read the program text of Visionaire without microscope... wink. Fact is: 1920 doesn't make sense if I have to increase all stuff to 200%...

That's true. I mean a screen without scrolling. The scene could be 3000 px width (I tried it out), but the window is still 1280 (in my case only 800) px.

I use scrolling one time but it is very uncomfortable, I avoid it if I can.

Thats why the editor has also scrollbars and zoom functions wink But i agree: the higher the game resolution, the higher your workstation computer resolution should be (but not neccessarily) to have less trouble when in the editor.

You can't scale the game window like a vlc video so you have to use a resolution which fits to many unknown gamer screens. Too large isn't good for small screens and too little isn't good for hires screens. If you use fullscreen mode it may work. So that's why 1280 is "in the middle". Afterall the animations and pictures increase without necessity and make it slow.
