What is the best program to capture video of gameplay

I want to capture a video of some of the gameplay of the game I'm working on. What program will let me do that? I have an old version of Camtasia, but it only captures black.

OBS Studio is open source and free. Extremely configurable, and it will record (full screen) games as well.

if you have an nvidia graphics card you could use the internal program from nvidia experience (also manages your drivers)

as far as i know radeon cards also have/get a recording feature with catalyst... 

by that you dont need an extra program. 

If its needed to finetune your recirding settings in detail i can suggest also OBS or fraps. 

Yeah amd radeon has something called ReLive. Just make sure hevc codec option is NOT selected as that's h265 & can't be edited in most video editing software yet. I think it also has a streaming option which I've not tried out. I personally use Camtasia.

I have Camtasia 6 and they want $99 to upgrade, so I'm avoiding that unless I have to.

The recorders that come with nvidia/amd driver packages should record fine. Only thing is if nvidia is anything like amd relive then it probably doesn't have many fine tuning options for the recording, but you can always convert & edit it in another application afterwards. Plenty of free open-source ones floating about out there.

P.S: I think Fraps is supposed to have a screen recorder option too?

Sorry to bother you sirs, but this seems to be the only thread I can find about screen capture software. I have a question about Fraps to ask you guys. Recently I recorded a gameplay video with Fraps and later found it was too big. So I downloaded this software(http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/tips/compress-fraps-vid... says it supports lossless conversion so i believed then: ) to help me compress it. But after conversion, the original AVI file got converted into MP4 and I found there was some quality loss and the frame rate also dropped a little. I want to know whether you guys know any better parameter settings which can make it better?

If you have a decent pc with either an AMD or NVidia graphics card then you should have AMD ReLive or NVidia Shadowplay installed. Both of those record the screen fine. Having said that AMD ReLive seems to have some weird color/sharpness issue, but other than that it works great. The recorded filesize on the other hand is a bit large so I ended up using Camtasia Studio to convert has it has some really nice presets aimed for youtube that are tweakable. Reduced the filesize a fair bit without much noticeable change to the quality. Keep in mind that a video of gameplay for your game is never going to look as nice/smooth as playing the game itself unless you record 60fps in full hd or higher, but that means you'll end up with massive filesizes - even for a few minutes of video. (I'm not very video savvy, so take my words with a pinch of salt or two).

Just figured I'd chime in here and mention that if you have a Windows 10 computer, pressing WinKey + G in a game will open up the "game bar."  From there you can record footage (with or without mic) and broadcast a stream to Mixer.
