Mr. Bunting's Modest Adventure

Mr Bunting’s Modest Adventure is now available for the low low price of nothing. Get more info and download it at the website: http://mrbunting.weebly.com.

This was our entry into the Virtuelle Welten competition (albeit with the upload eventually finishing 23minutes late – [let the record show, I blame my crappy internet quality]).

The game was compiled in VS 3.7.1. We designed a bit around the stuttering scaling of the character but couldn’t eliminate it completely. Also, with the competition deadline we compiled and submitted it earlier than we would ideally have liked. We therefore plan to release an updated version using VS 4.0, make some minor cosmetic changes, implement additional code that I didn’t get ‘round to testing properly and also fix any bugs found before then.

We consider this a kind of open-beta release and would value any input/comments/criticism/whatever.

PS. If anyone is bored and would like to translate the game into another language (~1000 lines of text), give me a shout. Unfortunately the only payment available is free copies of the game. grin

Hi, seems that the game contains a bug that prevents you from triggering the game ending under certain conditions (but allows you to trigger it in a way that doesn't make any sense). We are currently uploading a version that has that problem fixed. At our current upload speed it'll only be available in about 6-7 hours though so please excuse. We apologise for the trouble.

If there is anyone who has started playing it - you should be able to use game saves from the problem version with the new one.

Lol, we have to upload via wifi because the national provider wouldn't deign to install a telephone line for ADSL to the apartment complex where we live (we do live in a city so we can SEE telephone lines, we just can't have any on our particular block. wink.)

Our wifi fortunately works okay, but upload speeds are absolutely horrendous.

Maybe it's better that you wait then. Thank you!

we don't have phone lines in rural parts - choice of radio phone (internet speed on that is slower than dial up razz)., horrendous dongle stick (limited bandwidth & expensive) or DSL... I'm on 3mb DSL (unlimited bandwidth, same speed up/down) the annoying thing is that some of the villages & bigger towns etc not far from us have phonelines & access to 20mb+ broadband for about half the price we pay for the 3mb connection.

Yeah, in isolated places people can get away with charging you almost anything. At least it sounds like you have villages and towns nearby so look on the bright side: no good internet but at least you don't need to slaughter and process your own food. wink

Very nice game, I hope it does well in the contest smile

Only real criticism is the fonts often blended in the background so difficult to read

Oh, you played it? Wow, thanks! I really hope that it was at least fun to some degree.

I have to say that the competition was just there to give us a concrete goal. We've wanted to make something for a while now, but you can't start too big and limiting one's scope is actually really hard. So the time limit forced us to stick to something and finish it.

I know of a few things that need fixing (luckily all the functional bits are in place now) and will specifically revise the text in some spots. I do also realise that the text will be harder to read on smaller monitors (the game was assembled on quite a large monitor) so will do a bit more testing in that regard.

    Thanks again! smile

err actually the majority of the locals round here still slaughter their own food, even though there is multiple super markets about 20 minutes away & there are various small shops in the villages on the way to either of the slightly larger towns. Personally I think they just like the blood & gore! grin They actually used to slaughter the animals on this stone clearing thing opposite our house, well at least until my mum complained. now they do all that shit outside their own houses.

anyway will download the new update & check it out later on; if I get the time.
