Mayor Problem!! Crashes delete actions & code (solved)

  • #1, by fabian-schurgersSaturday, 28. March 2020, 09:21 4 years ago
I've had several crashes now, and at a certain point I began noticing the game I am building was missing pieces of code and action sequences after a crash.

I checked and double checked, and this really is the case.

This is a mayor problem for me. My game is rather large, and if every crash of the program has a chance of randomly deleting code entries, I really cannot use this program anymore.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

The crashes occur when saving the project.

Update: A crash has totally ruined an animation sequence I made.
I have to rebuild it from scratch....

    Hi,

I'm on Windows 10 Home edition, 64 bit. I will send in the next crash report when it happens.

I'm using Visionaire Studio edition 5.0.9

    Best regards,

    Fabian

PS. Let me stress that I really like the engine, but this has been a bit frustrating smile

It crashed again, and said I should sent the crash dump. But where to find it? In the crash error message, there was nothing....

Just spend hours rebuilding everything that was lost due to
    the save crashes.

I really hope a solution can be found soon.

Quick question, did you try checking the backup file?

Probably too late now, but every so often VS creates/overwrites a ved file with the same name as your current ved, but with .bak extension at the end of it. Just rename the file & remove .bak from the name to turn it back into a ved file.

Also VS 5.0.9 was pretty stable. Are you suffering from memory leak issues or something? Does it crash randomly? or does it always crash when you are in a specific area or doing something specific?

Also, you should regularly save & backup your ved files. There's even a built in system in the options menu that lets you generate a new version of your ved & auto applies a number prefix to your ved that increments each time you use that option.

If you are losing hours of work, then you aren't backing up frequently enough.

    Hi,

I am backing up often. The problem was I wasn't aware the save crashes deleted so many things across the board.
When I found out, holes where everywhere, and I had hours of patch work to do.

In regards to the crashes, it crashes on saving.

I'll check out the Generate New version option.

    Thanks for your input!

Nothing works. I've tried updating, but the first thing the engine did was crash while saving.

One of the problems is that the engine saves each time I test run the game, giving it a chance to crash and burn.

Is there a patch coming out soon or an update that might fix these things?

Can you please send me a copy of your ved via pm? I have a feeling there is something deeper going on there.
