3D characters

I was planning to use Mixamo to animate 3D characters, and then combine them using Animation Combiner. Animation Combiner however produces GTLF or GLB files, so I need some conversion to a format VS will load.

Having Blender at hand, I tried Blender, but whatever I try, it produces files with no animations in them.

I triend the default Collada exporter, I tried the Godot 'better' exporter and I tried a directX exporter. But none of them hold animations.

I double checked this by reloading the exports in Blender, and made sure the animations were present before exporting.

Does any one have any experience with 3D characters in general, and could anyone advise me on a workflow to get a character with multiple Mixamo animations into VS?

When I download a DAE animation from Mixamo, VS still does not recognize the animation in it. So there seems te be something not right with VS too.

Visionaire uses the Assimp importer so in theory if the model works in a Assimp model viewer it "should" work in VS

Here's a blend file  of a badly modeled character, but it has idle, walk and talk, it exports fine for me with the godot exporter from Blender 3.0 and Blender 2.91

With the default exporter that just seems to export the name of the animation, so you need various armatures named as the animation track, I can't get the actions to work

FBX also works just change to all files when you load into VS

there is a character guide here using armture names
    https://www.dionous.com/visionaire-guide/

This is on Windows, I've not tried with Linux VS

    Thanks for the test file.

Somehow the 'better' DAE exporter has disappeared from Blender overnight. I am pretty sure I tested it yesterday, but today even though it is activated it does not show up in the exporter menu.

I did export it to .x and that did not work either.

Another thing I found out, is that with any of the evailable .DAE and .x files I have VS has a problem loading them. I got these error messages on the prompt:
    13:19:21.825:Could not open file 'home/fedor/Downloads/driftwood.x'
    13:19:54.935:Could not open file 'home/fedor/Downloads/Talking.dae'
    13:20:25.902:Could not open file 'home/fedor/Downloads/test.dae'

So I think there is a thing @Simons might need to have a look at. Is there a way to tag him on this forum?

They need to be in the project folder, usually I create a folder called "Graphics" in the same directory as the ved file

he's a working project that may help:

    Tnx... that was it.

Now I have a DAE that holds several mixamo animations.

I am afraid it is the one I exported using the 'better' exporter that now stopped working in Blender.

    The others are not working.

So I need to fix this exporter issue in Blender.

You can't tag people on this forum, but you can send private messages, or you can feel free to join our discord server where the majority of the active community is. We don't really use the forum very much these days & most members are on our discord server where they can often get an instant response or have live conversations with VS team members & other community members. wink

P.S: Simon is on there & so is nigec. Also we have channels for posting editor bugs & feature requests, & a working forum too, & lots of chatroom channels for various things.

I tried installing the exporter from the zip file, that didn't work, I manually added the io folder to scripts\addons...
    Blender\2.91\scripts\addons\io_scene_dae

I did do the manual installation, that didn't work. I am using Blender 3.2

But since the Assimp library supports more formats - even blender - would it be possible to allow more 3D file formats for import?

I would love the blender format, but GLB and GTLF would be great too.

On you all hanging out at Discord... I'll go there for my next questions. But some advice from someone who just found VS and wants to evaluate if it suits my needs: a forum for me is an indicator if the softeware is still alive. I want to find out if there is a big enough cummunity to assure me I will get help when I need it. So you might want to remove this forum and place a link to the Discord forum.

I'm using Blender 3.0 ... well its actually UPBGE, however 2.91.3 also works although it nagged that it may not work due to a version conflict.

Not many people have used the 3D option so and discussions are few and far between, but once you get a reliable work flow its not that hard.

Discord is very active, afrlme does a great job
I'm not using Linux, it's installed on my old pc and my wife has claimed the monitor as she works from home lol

This forum is still used, it's just not as efficient as Discord is because once you post you have to sit around twiddling your thumbs while you wait for a reply which could take hours or days or never if your post gets overlooked. We don't have the forum open all day scouring for new posts, but Discord is nice as you can have it running in the background or on another screen while you are doing something else & can see either via notifications if some else mentions you or if there's new messages in a channel via an indicator icon next to a server icon.

Both me & Simon are online most days & have Discord open most of the time. We don't always respond to things, but we also have 3 moderators & a bunch of active community members who are always willing to provide answers if they can or have a discussion about various things.

Also, there is a link to our Discord server, it's the funny looking logo on the right side of the footer section - there did used to be links to the twitter & facebook accounts too, will have to ask Simon where those disappeared to.
