Translation via CSV File and Excel

    Dear friends,

    I tried to translate my german version of the game I am working on. The goal is to create an english version.  So the workflow was: export language file as .csv, import in Excel, make the changes and them save and reimport it so Visionaire again.

    Surprise: it doesn`t work. As long as I export the language file and do not touch it, the reimport works fine. The moment I opened it in Excel, Visionaire dosn`´t import it any more - even if I didn`t change the file. Just to open the file in Excel is enough to destroy it for a reimport to Visionaire.

    Any thoughts how I can use Excel to make my translation and then still get a valid csv file that can be read by Visionaire to import the new language assets?

    Did you create the new language first and set it in the export options (set original language and the language you want to translate to)? Else the import won't work.

    Problem solved!

    I had used some special characters in my texts, including quotation marks and “TM” symbols. This seems to have caused problems during export and had to be edited manually.
    At the same time, as soon as the file was imported, Excel messed up all the quotation marks: “ became ”". This also had to be corrected in the text file before input.

    With a little manual work, the import now works perfectly and I have a first English version of the game.

    So the workflow now is:

    -> export csv File.
    -> Import to excel by clicking "Tabs" as well as "Semicolon" and " quotation marks".
    -> Adding the translation
    -> export as CSV UTF-8 file with separators
    -> manual rework all special characters and replace the "" to " with notepad++
    -> import to visionaire

    this works fine :-)

    (btw: I found some threads which refered to the wiki, but yesterday when I worked on the issue, I tried to use the wiki, which didn`t work. A minute ago I tested it again and the wiki worked again.)
