The Studio for Mac

First of all; I don't think you guys who're involved with the Visionaire engine get enough praise nor commendation for the work you've put into this product. It has grown into this beautiful thing, providing variant, easy-to-use tools, of which adventure game developers in the past could only dream of when they were struggling with endless amounts of code on every project they took on.
The passion you have for this thing is admirable, as you're constantly pushing the engine further and expanding your game to new platforms, and it is fantastic to watch and nothing short of phenomenal!

BUT (uh oh, here comes the "but"-part) ...but as you're doing this, you are making these new features available only for your current user base. I can with certainty say, that I am just one of the many passionate future developers watching this thing grow from the outside, as I wouldn't dare to take on such a quest, as making a game, with nothing but a Mac computer.

It is wonderful to see that you are making this thing grow, but I must ask you to reconsider your priorities not just for mine, but for your own sake:
If you made the Mac engine instead of concentrating on players for new platforms, YOU would get more customers, and not just the already existing developers.
I'm not trying to play down the importance of the latter, nor pretending to know what's best for you guys, but this is my sincere suggestion for this point of time.

I'm not trying to fish for sympathy, but I just have to say that I myself have been delaying my grand adventure for over a year now, in hope that the Mac engine would come out soon, because I've been told everytime I have asked since April of 2012 by you guys that it would be released "very soon".

So, to make long story short (too late, idiot) I wish that we could get in the future, without having to ask, occasional updates on how the Mac release is coming along, spiced up with some preferably realistic estimations on the remaining time.

I hope you didn't take this (frustratingly long, sheesh) opening post the wrong way as I'm just trying to think what's best for all of us wink

    Hi there,

I have to agree to this as I am waiting for a Mac version myself.
Maybe switching the current business model from proprietary souce code to Open Source would help? You could provide a community edition in Open Source which would be free to use for private / personal projects. For commercial projects a commercial license would be necessary.

Maybe this would help to find somebody that is cabable of and willing to create a port for Mac Os X?

    All the best,
    Lars.

    Hi,

an Mac Player already exists. Not yet published, that's all. The editor starts too, but it was not completely done. Not sure, if we could release an editor yet.

We've made an huge rework from the last version 3.7.1.
To going openSource was not an option for and it does not even going faster with openSource, you need maintainers, which merge pull requests and or for bugfixing issues.

We want to be stable within the next release.

Wasn't the Mac Player announced to be out almost a year ago?
How ever, it is not relevant to the subject. I was talking about using Visionaire Studio itself to make games ON a Mac, and not just for it.

Stability is an excellent goal, if it has been an issue, but the thing I am curious about is that when will the promises of the full Studio for Mac be fulfilled? Will it be tailored from the next release?

Lots of other stuff have been made by you guys since it was told to be priority number 1.

Yes, and we are finished with it.
Much daedalic games runs with it. But we need more integrations for easy using. smile
OSX changes are very hard (for us), because we try to really get cross.
The editor "starts" but there are some issues outside us.
For example: We are hard waiting for an newer http://www.wxwidgets.org wxwidgets release.
We use it for the GUI (like QT).

Hm… Next release with the editor… Can't say it. But over next… We're just waiting for few libraries. (with the editor)

I’m not really a programmer, but I sure know OS X and Objective C / Cocoa an the process of testing software quite well, so if you guys need any help while testing the Editor on OS X let me know!

(Yes, this a dirty try to get my hands on it as soon as possible! ;-)

Been working with the emulated PC version for a while now for an adventure game i'm working on, i sure would love to have a real MAC app for this amazing piece of software. Kudos and all the best to everybody at Visionaire Studio, very dedicated people who are working to bring this great TOOL for all indie developers out there. Will wait for IT as long as i have to, just make it FLY smile.

Today wxwidgets 3.0 was released as stable.
Updateing now and we must show how "stable" is it… And which things we must adapt, translate and test.
