So...About Fonts

Greetings everyone !

So, I have tried to use Fonts and... it has been a rather long time.
As I see it, there are 2 Ways to get Fonts. Per Font Image and per TrueType font file.
I have tried to use a few different Pixel-ish looking fonts from the Web via TrueType but none of them seemed to work.
I then tried with Font Images. After a While I figured a few Basics about these and edited a few pictures to work better with Visionaire.
After that it worked better but another interesting Problem happened which is that Visionaire starts to take a few Characters together even tough they are in no way linked to each other. It doesnt happen with every Characters, and sometimes it bunches them together in horizontally or vertically.

Anyhow, I wanted to ask how your Experiences with Fonts are.
Have I made some Basic Mistake or are the Fonts just a bit complicated ?
Is there an easier Way ? Do such Font Images exist premade to work with Visionaire ?

Image font maps require characters to be simple. They also require stroke/outline around them because things like ¨ or " will get mistaken as 2 characters if there is whitespace between the ' & '.

Creating a image font map is simple enough though...

_ n o p q r s t u v w x y z
_ A B C...

You get the idea... The _ signifies the beginning of a new row & also sets the bottom edge of the characters  y_g more or less. Anyway, I recommend using simple-ish fonts if you want the engine to correctly display them.

I can't say whether all truetype/opentype formats are supported. I recommend trying a few & seeing what works. Also recommend using fairly simple fonts again. No erroded/destroyed fonts or fonts with complicated block patterns on them or swishy/scribble lines.

Is there anything to pay Attention to with the spacing between individual Letters and Lines ?

The _underscore should be perfectly straight. It doesn't have to belong to the same font you are using. I recommend using arial or something similar for the underscore if the font you are using has a tilted underscore.

Regular spacing of whatever graphics program you use should be fine for the spacing of between individual characters & lines. Just make sure the stroke outline you apply isn't bleeding into other characters as they might get mistaken as a single character. You can check if you've got it right with the font preview bit. There's an icon you can click on the toolbar in the font section that shows an outline around each character that the engine has automatically detected.
