Plugin Movie Object issue

    Hi!

I am trying to use the plugin Movie Object, to play a video on an object.
I have found the corresponding action part at the end of the list of actions, and I have imported my video in the scene.

    My scene looks like this:

    https://zupimages.net/up/18/07/3k41.jpg

    In this scene there is:
    - a large background (1920x1080)
    - a small window
    - a black object inside the window, where I want to play the video (1024x576) (this object is currently selected in the screenshot)
    - A video (hidden in the screenshot). The size of the video is also 1024x576.

How I have set up the plugin:
    - I have put the action part 'Object Movie' on the black object.
    - I have imported the mkv vp8 video in the Object Movie.
    - I have set the Movie Object to play onto object: the black object.
    - I have left the size at 100 (I guess the video should play at 100% of its default size?)

But it doesn't work as I expected. The result is:
    - The video plays in fullscreen (not at its default size)
    - The video is behind the black object
    - The video position is at the top left corner of the scene, instead of the top left corner of the object.

Has anyone tried the Movie Object plugin and had similar issues? Or on the contrary did it work properly for you?

    Thank you!

It should position the top left point of the video to the position you assign to the object. Assign it to an empty object that doesn't have any images or animations associated with it & order it so it ends up displaying the video above the background screen thing you have created. I believe scale is in terms of default game resolution as in the viewport. 100% = scaled to fill available space. You will have to mess around with scale values to try & get it to fit inside of the bounding box thing you have created or take the size of the video in mind.

It would be 480x270 if you scaled it down to 25. It would be nice if Simon let us force the pixel size, but I guess the reason he's basing scale on game resolution is so that the video scales up/down x percentage of available space instead which makes more sense I guess.

Oh yes, it works!! Thanks Lee!

The main problem is that I was misunderstanding the object position with the picture position...  :p

Regarding the scale, yes indeed when it is at 100, it's not 100% of the video size, but 100% of the game resolution (fullscreen).
Once I understood, it was easy to find that in my case I had to scale at 53%.

This plugin is working well and is pretty convenient in a first person adventure! I had been waiting for it for ages.
Thanks a lot to Simon for the hard work! Very good job!
(Next if someone could think of a 360° plugin... haha)

If you plan to do future updates of this Movie Object plugin, I would recommend the following improvements:
    - add a plugin category in the list of action parts
    - make the plugins accessible from the action parts window (not the long list)
    - indicate that the scale is relative to the screen (not the video)
    - eventually, add the possibility to change the position of the video directly in the plugin options, to avoid any misunderstandings
    - add an option to check, to wait the end of the video before continuing the list of actions (in the meantime I cheat with a pause, but it is not always very accurate)

These are just ideas, the plugin is already very useful! Cheers!

You can access it via the action part dialog window too mate, though I do agree that there should be a plugin action part category. If you know what the action part is called, just search for it in the searchbar underneath the frequently used action part list on the left side. You know it's to do with movies so just type "movie" & it should display the action part. A more ideal solution would be if custom action parts had a field that allows you to specify which category it should belong to & it gets added to the end of the action part list for said category.

It allows you to play movies/video files directly in your scenes. You can have them overlay the entire viewport or you can scale them down. Not 100% sure how the scaling bit of it works to be honest. You can link them to a scene object which will define the position of the video (based on top left corner). You can have the video loop. There's also a blend mode which somehow blends the video into the scene. I've no idea how that works either, but Daedalic Entertainment used the blend thing for the snow particles & other things in their most recent release "Ken Follet's: Pillars of the Earth".
