Quick tip for those of you that use Steam: A lot of games drop trading cards, if like me you aren't bothered about leveling up your profile (not that much incentive to bother) or care about collecting cards or badges then you might as well sell them on the steam market. I've already made almost 4 euros since the weekend just from selling the shitty worthless cards to idiots (whether you are one of them or not, I have no clue). grin

P.S: you can use an application called Idle Master to farm cards from games - without launching said game & without having them installed to your hard drive. There's another app available too that is supposed to work discreetly in the background, but I've not used it & thus will not mention it here.

Quick tip #2: If you check out steam gifts website & the discussion forum you will often see people post about free games. Most of them are utter shite that you will never ever play, but most of them come with trading cards you can sell (free money - even if it's digital - is free money). You usually just have to like a few groups & post to twitter or whatever to get a free steam key.

P.P.S: This was for those people who selected the "I would, but I'm too poor" option in the survey I created. Not saying you have to do this to contribute, but at least now you know how to get free games & money added to your steam wallet for nothing. wink

Hey, TV = waste of Time! Life, Love, and Work is much more fun and rewarding!
I am in China at the moment, and can't open google. ["Can you tell me in very short words what it is about?" - he asked humbly like some soup-hungry orphan in a Charles Dickens novel.]

It's just a survey with some basic questions in relation to organizing a periodically hosted game development competition (with prizes) in which the winner gets to set the theme / rules of the next competition.

None of our previous competitions in the past have exactly gone down a treat so I am wanting to set something up that is a lot more consistent & regular as opposed to giving people some vague concept & a limited amount of time to create a masterpiece.

Anyway the majority of votes thus far seems to favor that...
    * yes they like the idea of a periodically hosted competition
    * that it should be hosted once every 3 months
    * that it should last for 2 weeks (time to make & submit game)
    * that steam keys / gifts are a mediocre gift (most people voted 3/5)
    * donating unwanted steam keys / gifts is split between yes & I would but I'm too poor
    * that we should crack on with it

By the way, why can't you access google forms over in China?

Hey, this sounds like a great plan, I be happy to try when I am all settled back in Norway with a bought Visionaire Studio lisence and a PC that works grin ..

Have many plans, and are eager to get on with it!

Well, China has some issues over Google access, so I can't see youtube, check my gmail, use the facebook and twitter, and some other things are also offlimits here. As I think of it, the only thing I miss is Youtube since I have a channel of my own I would like to use.

    My answers then:
    * yes they like the idea of a periodically hosted competition
    - yes -
    * that it should be hosted once every 3 months
    - ok! -
    * that it should last for 2 weeks (time to make & submit game)
    - fair enough! -
    * that steam keys / gifts are a mediocre gift (most people voted 3/5)
    - steam keys are mediocre, but realistic for this kind of event.-
    * donating unwanted steam keys / gifts is split between yes & I would but I'm too poor
    - yes, I am poor, but I like to give away anyway if someone need it more than me -
    * that we should crack on with it
    - Yeah, is a great scheme, and will boost creativity -

haha ok dokie, cheers mate. wink

By the way, can you not get around the restrictions with a VPN? Chrome has an extension called ZenMate which has a few free locations you can switch to. I think they are: US, Hong Kong, Romania & Germany. Don't know if I've forgotten any of them - there's at least 4 or 5 available for the free version. It works as I use it to bypass geo restrictions for american streaming sites like crackle, as I wanted to watch "Aim High" series which is only available on that particular site.

smile well, I think me and my wife will be back in Norway in a month or two maybe, so is not so urgent, and the restrictions isn't really a big fly in my (noodle)soup, like I said, only thing I really miss is my own youtube channel grin As for searches, I use Bing and it works pretty fine! Thank you very much for the tip though! I owe you one wink

I've not been reading the thread, I'm a bit too busy, sorry. But the idea of a Visionaire competition sounds good. However you shouldn't keep it private to the VS site/forums/community. Opening the competition to as many people as possible is a good way to get some exposure (and sell the engine).
There are already a lot of Jams every month, like the Myst Game Jam I made in January. Just go on itch.io and create a Visionaire Jam: invite people to create a game with your soft in 2 weeks, tweet and tell them that there are prizes and they'll come for sure.

Yeah mate, I was discussing about making it more open with Thomas earlier which is why I asked him if we could have an option for giving out license key as optional prize for people that aren't using a licensed version of VS.

    Thanks for the itch.io suggestion.
