let NPC walk off the scene [solved]

    This might be a silly question. I want to let an NPC walk off the scene. But I have no foreground object to hide him behind. (that's how I normaly do it)

    The only options I could think of:
    - let him walk near the border and then hide him (doesn't look good, because he disappears in full view)

    - extend the background so I can extend the wayborders beyond the visible area. But how do I prevent the scene from scrolling further than to this point? (scene is larger than the resolution, so scrolling is needed)

    Or is there another way I just don't see? Any help is appreciated (I don't want to do the backgraound again from scratch to fit in an object to hide the character...)!

    That's what"set horizontal scroll area" is for!

    You can draw way system borders outside of the scene background. No need to force scroll areas. If you have a middle mouse button you can drag the viewport around which will let you access outside of the scene background area on all 4 sides. That's how I allow characters to walk off or into scenes from the outside.

    Strange. I tried this first, but when I reached the side of the background by dragging a point of the wayborder, the engine stopped reacting to any input, so I had to close the program. But I tried this on my laptop without mouse - so no middle mouse button. Will try again with a mouse.

    Yeah, would be really helpful if Simon could add a hand button option to the toolbar or added a keyboard option, like spacebar in adobe photoshop to switch to the hand tool while mouse is hovering over the viewport.

    I know not everyone has access to middle mouse button. Back when I was using my laptop I ended up changing the bindings on my touchpad mouse buttons so that right button was middle mouse & 2 finger tap on touchpad was right click. Bit of a crude workaround, but it did the trick at the time.

    oh, learned something new today smile Did never noticed that the middle mouse button is able to drag the scene around. Maybe because I now use a mouse with a "real scrollbutton" instead of the apple magic mouse.

    If you hold ctrl/cmd then you can zoom in/out whatever preview viewport the mouse is hovering over with the mouse wheel - scenes, characters, animations, etc. Apparently it zooms into the point where your mouse cursor is positioned.
