Keyboard movement in Visionaire Studio v5?

    Hello guys,

is it still possible in v5 using keyboard for movement if you want to create an adventure without point&click possibility or if anyone would like to play with keyboard instead of mouse so both versions are build-in? Possible?

    Thanks!

Yes it's possible. I'm not going to go into details though as this has already been asked multiple times before. & yes I'm aware Visionaire forum search engine is buggered.

add this into the search bar on google...

I found 1-3 years old posts. So it isn't build-in you have to code it by yourself, right?

    Last update about this?

Aye, it's not a built in feature. It's a point & click adventure game engine first & foremost, but Simon intends on making it more flexible in the future, so maybe it will have actual keyboard movement support in the future - who knows!?

I believe someone else was talking about keyboard movement last month. I don't remember which thread it was in though. Sorry.

Dont worry, you still helped. I am looking for the right engine for side scrolling adventure. And here it feels better for gaming experience if you can control your hero directly. Everything has pros and cons (especially if you can't code) xD

VS is great if you are still wanting the point & click feature as an option for the more traditional adventure game feel / player. Side scrolling is possible, it's just VS wasn't originally designed for alternative control input devices, but with some scripting & trickery, it's possible. Gamepad/controllers work too.

If you aren't bothered so much about the point & click aspect of it, then maybe an engine like GameMaker Studio would be much better suited? I believe it's fairly easy to learn & like VS also comes with both premade actions/events with an optional scripting system. Creating character movement in that with keyboard/gamepads is quite simple as the engine excels at top-down & side-scrolling platform games. I don't know how hard it would be to create a point & click adventure in that engine though as it's not specifically designed for those as it doesn't have a built in way system & so on, or sections for creating items, inventory, etc. You would have to manually create all of that stuff yourself & probably script a FSM (finite state machine) to handle your scripts if you decided to use the scripting side of the engine.

As you say, everything has its pros & cons. Each game engine is no different.

Yeah I've tried GMS and it's a great help too but for someone who can't code to hard. I've learned how FSM worked and created one... but the problems there were other things. Things like inventory for example. smile

Construct 2 is easy too. But same problems here when it comes to inventories and so on.
