Cant we change the icon of the exe in Visioanire before build?

Cant we change the icon of the exe in Visioanire before building the game? Do we need to use external program for it?

Yes, you need to use an external program to change the icon. The same program will also allow you to update the metadata for the exe file too.

http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/ -- it will allow you to open up an exe file, replace the icon files & update the details. It can be used for so much more, but it will do for what you are after & as an added bonus, it's 100% free.

Long time is passed from my last post but I was very busy to finish the demo and now at the final step I'm stuck with game icon I've used resourcehacker to change the icon game and it works really fine with the zip version but if I try to create a setup installer with InstallForge I have this problem:
The files listed in the builder show the correct icon (my icon), but when I run the setup and install the game on my pc, the desktop icon is the player icon not my personal icon. The funny is that if I right click the icon, inside the panel I see my icon?!
I must manually change the ico and apply it, but I cant ask to players to do it. You know some people don't like to do anything while installing a game

Paupasia, I would recommend you to not create a setup installer. Most people don't use it anymore, it's probably more modern and easier: create a zip or rar, and let people extract... and play! No need anymore to install/uninstall. The game can be played on any computer from any hard drive, and deleted immediately!

If we release our game to Steam or GOG I'm pessimistic about setup installer.

Steam seems to be ok, icon wise. I've got a few VS made games via steam & they all have their own custom icons. Not sure if I've installed any VS made games from GOG.

About installer I agree with you but there are some people who really don't like zip files (my personal experience) but if there is no chances to change the icon I'll keep the icon player. Better then nothing
DEshini from what I read in a old post, Steam and GOG prefer zip files so my problem is only to give more choice to the players
