New to VS - could use some help

    Hi, everyone!

I'm using the VS freeware to see if this is going to be a good engine for Linux. I'm intimidated because I started with Clickteam software and RPGMaker, both of which have extremely robust templates to dive into. I could use some advice on understanding how much we're getting in the VS templates.

    1. Chaos in the Cannibal Village : the options menu comes up but changing resolution doesn't seem to do anything. Is this by design? So the user learns how to re-program the resolution options?

    2. Zeppelin - First Person Template : hitting "Escape" brings you to the main menu but it still just says "Start" instead of "Continue". Is this by design? So the user learns how to re-program the menu?

    3. Magical Potions : the options menu doesn't launch at all. Is this by design? So the user learns how to program the menu?

    4. Fantasy Quest : this seems to be nothing more than a title screen. Starting a game fades the screen and plays numerous sounds but the screen is black. Are we supposed to see something?

My OS is Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.2

Thanks for any oreo you can provide.
    Cheers

Hi and welcome to Visionaire Studio!
Great to have you here,  and awesome that you're exploring the engine with the free version.

All the templates you mentioned are community-made examples that users kindly provided so beginners can look into real projects and learn how things are set up.
They are not meant to be polished, full-featured games. Instead, they show the basic structure, logic and (sometimes) scripting you can freely modify.

A few points regarding your questions:

Chaos in the Cannibal Village – Resolution Options
Yes, this is normal. The options menu is just an example UI. It doesn’t contain full resolution-changing logic.
=> You can completely reprogram this or expand it however you like.

Zeppelin – “Start” always appears instead of “Continue”
Also by design. The template does not include save-game detection.
=> You can rename every menu button and implement your own continue-system.

Magical Potions – Options menu doesn’t launch
Same idea: It's a learning template. Not everything is implemented.
=> You can create your own menu logic or copy parts from another template.

Fantasy Quest – Black screen after title
I check this problem out later...

    Good news:
With Visionaire, everything can be customized — menus, buttons, behaviors, resolution changes, save systems, etc. The templates are only starting points so you can see how things are built and adapt them for your own project.

If you ever need help building a specific menu or function, feel free to ask!
We're happy to support you on your way.

    Cheers!
