Manual savegame bug

  • #1, by andy-rinaldiSunday, 29. March 2015, 18:38 5 years ago
    Hi guys,
I advise you that the manual savegame feature is not working fine. Many times, when the users load a savegame, any hotspot is disabled. This is sure. We found this bug in the mac and windows release.
We must use the autosave function. This is a big problem.
    Please check the savegame feature.
    Thanks.

I would like to confirm the problem related by Andy.

We have this issue in ASA: Remastered Edition, and we are 99% sure that it is not a bug in the game. It's a problem with the savegames system (no problem with autosave - only manual savegame).

It happens on Windows and Mac (and probably Linux too but nobody complained yet).

The problem is that, sometimes, when people save the game in a scene where there are hotspots (actions), then they quit the game, and when they load it later, the savegame is like broken: the scene can be loaded and the game seems to work fine, but in fact the hotspots are disabled. And when I say disabled, I mean: totally dead! The mouse cursor doesn't change on rollover, the actions are disabled, etc... --> You cannot click on the hotspot, and as a result you cannot continue the game. The savegame is broken, and people have to restart from the beginning.

I personnally never had this problem because I played with the autosave during the Beta Test. However, since other people complained about it, I tried it by myself and I must admit that it's true : it happens here and there. The game loads, you can move from a scene to another, but some of the hotspots are dead and you cannot solve the puzzles anymore. There is nothing to do, you have to restart from the beginning.

Do you have an idea? Do you know this problem already? Will it be fixed in the next update? It is very important, because several of our customers are waiting for a fix. Thanks!

I thought it could be useful to share a savegame where this problem happens. Download here

In this savegame you are on planet Kepler. You'll have 4 trees in front of you. They have wood levers. When everything works well, you can rotate the levers. In this savegame, the hotspots don't work, and the mouse cursor doesn't even change on rollover.

I experienced exactly the same bug when playing "A New Beginning" (game by Daedalic running on Visionaire). After loading the position there was disabled one hotspot - unfornutally it was exit (area for entering another scene) so I couldn't proceed in the game and I had to start from the beginning (oh maybe that is meaning of the title "A New Beginning" ). Other hotspots worked perfectly fine... it's a mystery.

can you reproduce this bug in the Demogame? either in the current one or in the upcoming Demogame which can be downloaded here http://www.cunics.de/Visionaire_Games/FantasyQuest-Editable_...

this would highly increase the chances for fixing this issue. So far I've never experienced this problem and I haven't heard of it before. If this really happened also in "A New Beginning" it would mean the bug would be there almost forever...

From "A New Beginning" Steam reviews:
...I also found a game-breaking bug, however, which required a replacement save file from the support team to get past.

The support team answered my emails quickly and were very helpful when I encountered a game-breaking bug.

There are a lot of bugs. Mainly I encountered translation bugs: various items popping up in Russian or Spanish. I also found a game-breaking bug, however, which required a replacement save file from the support team to get past.

we're not the "A New Beginning" support team wink
And game breaking bug can mean anything, usually it has to do with the project itself. This thread is about a concrete savegame bug.

Hi Alex, could you explain me how can I do to reproduce the bug?
Maybe I can give you access to asa-r project?
If yes then I'll send you the link via email.
    Thanks

I think that this is problem of particular actionpart/script/mouse over action etc. that is plugged into hotspots rather then the whole saving system is broken. Maybe good approach would be to examine those problematic hotspots and find out what they have in common - speaking of same actionparts and stuff.
Or you can try to deactive individual actionparts one by one to see if the hotspot would be fine from then on.

Millennium2k are you saying that ALL the hotspots are broken? Maybe you could try to find out one hotspot that is working after saving/loading and examine what actionparts and stuff this one doesn't have in comparison with hotspots which are still broken.

No, of course. Just a little hotspots are broken.
During my asa-r development I found more of these bugs, I remember, for example, of a simple hotspot broken with only "change scene" action.
And more, I found a lot of bug, many incredible bugs like the whole option menu scene that was not shown and then after some days the scene was ok(!). Or the music that was not working on my 2 PCs and on the Simon's PC was ok. Really incredible!

Some of the bugs like sounds & music could be os / hardware related. The others I don't know, could just be an oversight on your part or something which is causing the condition you may have linked to a scene object being toggled which is deactivating the objects. It's really easy to overlook things, by accident.

I've not experienced the issues mentioned here in anything I've been working on, or in any of the Daedalic games I've played.
