Characters blinking/disappearing issue

  • #1, by smac96Tuesday, 17. October 2017, 10:35 7 years ago
    Hi,

In my game sometimes (not always) can happen that the main character or the other characters blinks (you can see the character/you can't see the character/you can see the character) or disappears.

    This happens randomly.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

    Thanks!

    (Visionaire v3.7)

Sorry mate, I barely used 3.7. I'm not sure if Simon would know either as he came on board during the development of 4.x, but who knows?

I know the search thing on here rarely seems to work correctly, so have you tried googling visionaire & this problem? I have a feeling that I've heard this mentioned in the past before. 3.7 was so long ago & my memory isn't getting any better.

I'm wondering why you didn't upgrade to 4.x or the new 5.x? You would have likely needed to fix things here & there, but it would have been worth it in the long run. The engine was overhauled a fair bit between 3.7 & 4.x & even more so for 5.x.

I think your only hope for an answer to this is using google to find a similar thread or hold out hope that one of the veteran members on here knows the answer/solution. Sorry.

    Maybe its an simple issue.

I think if you have five pictures of motion animation but only four real pictures and one empty frame in VS it could be the blink.

Sorry for my english, i hope my thought is understandable.

No empty frames. And the error occours randomly with the main characters or with other characters on-screen.

Is the animation center set correctly for each of your characters animations? Is the character disappearing randomly during animations or when changing animations?

What do you mean "set correctly for each of your characters animations?"

Anyway the characters disappearing randomly most of all when changing animations (for example you can see the character when he's standing, then when he's moving he disappears and when he's back standing you can see him again). But totally random.

I mean you have to manually specify the animation center for each of your characters animations - usually placed near the feet. It is used to make sure all of your characters animations are aligned so the character doesn't appear to jump around. If you haven't set the animation center for some of the animations then it could appear the character is disappearing, but is in fact getting the animation pushed outside of the current viewport.

But what you are saying is that sometimes you can see them walking & other times they just disappear? Is anything mentioned in the log?

    * edit: just had a little go with the game. I skipped through the text to get to a part where I could control the character. The white haired/bearded guys walk & run animations all seem to be working correctly. Was it another character that has the issue?

Yes, the animation center is set for all animations. The prove is that I usually see them correctly working.

Yes, sometimes I can see them standing but the walking animation disappear. Or sometimes is the standing animation that disappear but the walking animation is working. Or sometimes they just stand and they simply blink. Nothing mentioned in the log. It's very frustrating because I have no control on this error.

Does this occur after loading a save file? Does it happen while you play a new game?
