Are there any free character templates?

Hi I am just starting out and wondered if I can download any free character templates to work on?

I am a programmer but not an animator and didn't want to have to use a stick man.

Daz Studio is  3D character software that has some decent built in animation sequences,  its been around a long time so there should be some nice tutorials on how to do 2D rendered characters.
I'm pretty sure there is Daz or Poser characters used in VS games
