I think that's already possible and only needs documentation (VObjectShaderSet field) - but I'm not 100% sure. This has to be answered by Simon smile

We talked about it a while ago, but he hasn't mentioned anything to me recently about individual object manipulation. We've mostly been talking about the lighting & optional parameters for the shaderAddEffect function. Would be very versatile to apply a warp effect to an object/character or to adjust the lightness, saturation etc.

It's technically possible, but I have to integrate it into the shader script, because who can write these shaders ? And I haven't figured out how I will do it, because I would need more copies of the same shader, and how will the setting diff then, also no multipass is possible. So no Blur/Glow on single objects or Image Effects and some other effect at the same time.

I got every model I have here running, not always perfectly aligned, so I wouldn't consider it buggy anymore. Maybe there are some other workflows that have different model outputs.

I have no idea mate, the shader gl code looks like random nonsense to me for the most part.

I don't think every function/effect of the shader should work for characters & objects. Hue & Colorize are not necessary as we can tint characters already with lightmaps or with the CharacterTint data structure table. Blur & Glow are not really necessary but blur could have been a fun warp effect say if the character was moving fast or an object was vibrating...

I think for characters and objects that saturation, lightness & some of the warp effects (if possible) would be enough.

going with the original post, I've been uv wrapping single textures and using jpg, with C4D you can re bake to a smaller size so its quite easy to see when the map starts to look cr*p

In the past with png I've used Flash CS3 to optimize images and bring the file size down

Some control over the smoothing angle would be nice and were the axis should be

I think, png was a good choice for Vis because of it's transparency channel. I use C4d too, but of course I prefer psd or tif with an alpha channel for textures. I think in game design png is still a real option.

I never heart somebody use Flash for optimizing pictures, I don't like this tool very much, but it has a lot of good functions. For pictures there is the one and only Photoshop for me :-) :-)

Png is cool with its size and quality compared to tif or targas but the point is which format is the best for Visionaire to handle the images, especially for the textures of the 3d character. Cause I still have problems in Vis with 3d char, it sometiems crush as soon as I hit the run. I'll send the files to Alex and he'll give a look on them and I hope they will sort it out the problem.

@Machtnix; have you ever used or tried 3d char in Vis mate?

Unfortunally no, because Vis 4 RC to 4.1 doesn't work. In don't want to waste energy by testing this completely new feature with the beta until I'm sure the final full-version works well.
    But I'm on the way...

BTW: I prefer to do all 3D-character-stuff in Cinema (lighting and so on) and export the 2D-png-frames. Of course it's not the same.

My problem with crashes was down to video card drivers, even throwing a Daz character into VS doesn't crash anymore and it loads fine when I launch a game
