Visionaire homemade Documentation & Template problems: An Endless Story?

    Nige hasn't been online in a while. I think he was self hosting. I may have some of the templates laying around on my hard drive somewhere though. No promises & I don't know how valid they will still be as they were created for 3.7.1 & before. A lot of those templates are really old.

    By the way, there are a lot of templates available on my dropbox account, but again, they are old & VS has come a long way since then, as have I, so methods used in them may no longer be valid (editor / code wise) or outdated in terms of how I created them. These days I tend to focus heavily on the Lua side of the engine because it's much faster & more flexible for me to work with from a work-flow perspective - plus I hate having to click around all over the place to select action parts one by one. Why bother when I can write a line of code that takes 10 action parts. wink

    The engine itself should be able to select multiple actions at the same time. Of course, you're having fun with lua script. But what about others? smile

    Well, moving or deleting multiple actions have been referenced. I hope new editor is able to do it.

    The new editor should be more work-flow friendly. Optional blocks you can activate / move around, as opposed to having to navigate from this tab, to this tab, to this action, to that action, etc.

    Blocks? Well...

    So many things will be changed in new editor. I hope more people know it.

    Anyway, I'm not sure I should develop the game further. New workflow will probably let me delete my previous actions.

    It's better just draw a lot of character animation and background images from now. By the way, it'd be painful to explain every single new features.

    I'm working on revamping my VS tutorial series again. And I wouldn't mind helping out -- especially if the new version changes workflow.

    It would be cool if all those awesome templates, codesamples etc. that people here in this community created could be submitted and uploaded somewhere, so that you get everything on a single page.
    At the moment you have to scroll through doozens of board-postings to find them. And since most of them, like AFRLme said, are/were self-hosted, it's trail and error if they are still online or lost forever.
    Sure some don't work properly cuz they are outdated, but acutally they can still be a great inspiration.
    I am still working on my game and the only reason why i get so far without proper documentation was all the templates ppl posted here that I could learn from.
    Imagina a page on this site here, where people can send in their templates (maybe with a limited filesize to keep things easy for the server) and another page where new VS users can download a big bunch of those templates to learn and work with. I am sure there would be alot of ppl here contributing in that.

    The wiki server is separate from this forum. If people provided me with templates / demos / tutorials / scripts / etc then I would be willing to add them to certain sections of the wiki. We already have a section for scripts & a section for tutorials. I'd have to ask David if there is a limitation to the amount of storage space we have or bandwidth, but I don't think it will be an issue.
