Visionaire Basics Youtube Tutorial Series

Great tutorials! Well-structured, not too long and easy to understand.
I've one question about the snooping-system. I'm still using 3.7 - there it is possible to place the snoop animation anywhere you like without having to create an interface for it. My snoop animation i.e. is an animation of a scene object. Did this change in version 4 or did you just create the interface to have everthing better organised and find the animation more quickly?

The interface method is just neater, as it's a more global approach. Technically you could create a single button in your main command interface, set it as an action area in the properties tab for the button & then add all of your snoop (hotspot) animations to it.

It was just for clearer organization. You can still use a snoop animation from another scene object.

    Thanks for the clarification.
"Neater" - that was the word I was looking for when writing the post above! It was on the tip of my tongue/fingers... really annoying, if you don't find the right word. Thanks for easing my mind.

At the moment I have plans for the following series of tutorials:

    • Menus and Minutia. In this series, we will progressively create the various menus and interfaces for your game such as splash screens, main menus, in game menus, save menus and lots more.

    • Taking Action. Each video in this series will be dedicated to either a single action or a set of related actions.

    • Items and Inventory, Each video will progressively create an inventory and its items as well as how to make them interact with other objects such as other items, characters and scene objects.

    • Watch your Language! A series dedicated to localization.

I also would like to create a series on characters and dialogue. At the moment, I'm working on artwork for the final videos in the Scenic Route series that I have planned (there will still be more, just none planned at the moment). Once that is done, I can start recording the last few videos and move on to the next.

If viewers have a preference for which series I start next, let me know. smile

Items and Inventory is very important for all game creators I think. The other stuff, language, splash screens, main menus and so on are optional stuff and second-rate...

Sorry, I haven't posted a tutorial in a bit. I'm struggling with an issue with my recording software. It is terribly unstable. I'm using iShowU Studio which is both a screen recorder and simple video editor. However, it blows up on me several times an hour while editing. Does anyone have any suggestions for an OS X based screen recorder and video editor? I'm currently looking at ScreenFlow which looks very nice and seems stable enough.

Lebostein: I totally agree. I think I will go with the Inventory and Items series as soon as I can.
