    hello,

I play with the software since few days and I am happy to see what I can do now. I'm not young, 39, so...Doing a game even old school is great, before to die !!!

    BUT

It's thanks to the tutorial available from glen and the three videos (they become outdated.).
Then you are happy thinking that you will be able to find info to do other great or simple thinks, essential to do an adventure game, but it become harder.

The links from google about visionaire forum search are relinked, but not correctly, so with the cache you see the first page, but that's all...The answer was on the other pages, not luck.

Today, I'm not able to do few simple things ( I'll post my question on an other thread, you'll understand my skill ;- ) ) And I'm a little bit worried about how I will manage problems more difficult.
Even if the software is not made for the programmers, and is friendly, I can't imagine how I could have done things like the glen's tutorial without him !

So I really don't understand why the team doesn't take time to do little videos about the ''essential '' ( I don't know the english word ) with ADVENTURE GAME EXAMPLE, to cover the basics.

    Why not a tutorial contest?!

This is what I think after few days of use, and after the number of people I've seen asking for some tutorials here, since month, I think I'm not the only one.
    regards.

There is a competition planned in the near (ish) future in which the winners game will become the new official demo game that comes bundled with Visionaire Studio 4.0+.

Most of us lack the time to plan, record & edit video tutorials. There are 3 devs working on programming, fixing & improving the engine & most of their free time goes into that. Myself, on the other hand provide support via the forum, pm, email, skype & the wiki. I don't have the resources to make any good tutorials as I'm not a very adept artist & I tend to mostly deal with the development (piecing game together) & the scripting (lua) side of things.

If you want to know how to do something, then just ask on here. If you need help, then post on here... etc. smile

P.S: I'm currently on holiday, so my replies will be a little slow for next couple weeks.

I think a tutorial contest could be a great idea, but I don't know if much people (with the necessary knowledge and spare time) could take part in it.

The lack of information about Visionaire is a real trouble actually. GlenFX did a great job with the tutorial (long ago); the three videos on YouTube are very useful too; you have the Wiki (mainly for programmers), and a little bunch of kind users help as much as they can here at the forum, but I think there should be an extensive & official tutorial for VS.

I know VS developers are very busy improving the engine, and that's good, but this thing I say is a big obstacle to make Visionaire more popular.

I've been actually thinking about making an updated tutorial for awhile. Break down step by step how to use it, using Paradigm ( www.paradigmadventure.com ) as an example to work from. While also talking about my art process, animation techniques and how to think of ideas. Also do bi-weekly streams with a focus on art, but also talk about adventure games or whatever.

Once my Kickstarter ends, I'll start to plan it out. Only thing I would be terrible at would be giving advice on scripting heh.

Imagine the free time you'll have when videos will be available ! grin No noobs like me anymore...

Even very simple scene and character are enought, the ressources from the demo are enought as the purpose is the software use not the art aspect.

I want to capture some animated scenes (as demo and maybe for tutorials) from the player with a free capture tool (f.e. by topviewsoft), but the result is impossible to cut in a moviemaker program (f.e. PremierePro only shows cracked and shattering frames like an interference).
Which tool is useful to capture from the Vis player (in XP 32bit) and which codec I should use?

I know I should focus more on sorting out other aspects of the documentation besides the lua script stuff, but it's the lua stuff I prefer working on. I'll get round to sorting out some more non-lua related wiki pages at some point soon-ish (hopefully), but they will not exactly be tutorial pages. More of an overview of the different tabs.

Tutorials & little how to guides will probably come later on. It's hard to know where to begin with how to guides though...

I use camtasia studio for recording the screen, but for some reason I couldn't get it to record vs player when running in fullscreen.

I find fraps is the best for recording in-game. Then I use After Effects to edit, but anything works.

    Thx

ah... well I tried fraps but...

    1. it has a watermark thing.
    2. it only records for about 30 seconds.
    3. the exported file was quite large - even for a few seconds.

There was a free screen grabber I used a while ago, but I can't think of it off the top of my head. I'll post a link if I remember the name as I think it was ok, but it was a couple years or so ago when I used it.

Hi, I use the free topviewsoft-thing. It works well in its own player and I can watch it with vlc, but there are problems to import in Premiere (to make a sound-track). I think it depends on a wrong codec.

BTW: AFRLme: have a good time!
