RC2 / Mac: Background doesn't show up

  • #1, by Philipp StumppFriday, 18. August 2017, 13:10 7 years ago
    Hi there,

i'm totally new to Visionaire Studio so i tried to use the Handbook to learn how to get along with everything. RC 2 seems to have a new GUI, but who cares. So i created a new scene and placed a pic as a background (i tried jpeg AND png in case someone wants to ask about this)...

    ... nothing ...

So i placed the same picture as the lightmap just in case the prog needs a lightmap under every circumstances ... nothing.

Do i miss something? Is there a button i have to check first after creating a link to a background picture? Or could this be a BUG in the Mac version?

    Your help is very appreciated!

    Thanx, Phil

(You can answer in german language too smile )

    Hi, please go to

    /Users/<users>/Library/Logs/Visionaire Editor

and look for the viseditor.log, that should help.

Do you have the scene set as the starting scene in your game settings? Did you set a starting character and put him on that scene?

You need to have several objects set in your project to be able to run a game: a character, an interface etc. But you should get an error message upon starting, if something is missing.

Oh great, there is some help smile

I haven't placed a character yet, i just wanted to set the first scene bevore placing a character and everything else. (Maybe because i went throught the handbook step by step and setting the background was the first stop, hehe)

I don't want to start the game rigth now but i just wondered why noting happens at all when creating a background for my scene.

Here is what the log says : Error reading header from image Testgarten2.png

I guess this is the Problem but what could it mean?

The pngs are seemingly not compatible, maybe you are using some obscure format ? I can take a lot at the pngs if that helps you.

there seems to be an issue with the image itself. Can you resave the image (in another program) and check again?

Ah, so the image doesn't even show up in the editor. I thought you were trying to run the game.

Seems like either your file is corrupted (or somehow "misformatted") or is located in a directory outside of your project folder. All files have to be in the same folder as your .ved file.

    Edit:
What's going on here? Three replies while I was typing this. Looks like you're getting some help... smile

    YES!

One point for Einzelkämpfer ... it has to be in the same folder as the project ... ok, that was stupid of me ... but there was no hint about that in the handbook.

So i thank you a LOT! Great. I'll contact you again if i have another question. You are great.

    Thanx for your time!!!

hehe. All asset files need to be in the same folder or sub-folders of the root folder where the ved is located. By the way. Only use PNG or WEBP format for images. JPG sometimes works, but not always. Rest of formats are a no-no.
