Precise Image/Animation Positioning

@Alex: One of the members on here pointed out to me a little while ago that when positioning images & animations that the top left corner (which defines the image/animation position) should snap to the mouse cursor position when dragging the image/animations to new positions. I think this is actually a good idea because we can see the co-ordinates on the menu bar & thus we know exactly where we are placing the image/animation.

Also I think it would be a good idea to create some text input boxes for manually typing in x & y that are shown when image positioning is activated & an image/animation has been focused on.

Optionally I was wondering if co-ordinates could be shown in a tooltip that shows up somewhere near the cursor while dragging image/animations around? I think it would be easier to see than looking at menu bar - less strain on the old eyes & all that! razz

I remember it being a nightmare when I was doing my 1st person games, it took longer to get the placement right than actually coding the scene
I can't see why it couldn't be done (and easily)

there are already input fields for the image/animation position in the preview tab. Or do you mean something else?

automatically snapping the image upper left corner to the cursor sounds confusing to me, the image would be in a completely different position when you start dragging. I don't think that would work. Maybe it could work with a more advanced handling (e.g. only snap image with Ctrl key pressed).

oh please don't do the snapping to the mouse cursor thing! At least not as only solution. If you can switch it on or off - fine by me. But if I want to position a big image, I zoom in and look for a dinstinguishing mark to place it on the right spot. If the images upper left corner would snap to the cursor that wouldn't be possible. I could only place this corner, and that is in most cases transparent alpha channel.

In the preview tab of the sceen objects is an input box to type in the x an y coordinates for images/animations. Or did you mean something else?

The coordinates showing up near the cursor would be helpful though.

@ Alex: I never noticed the x, y input boxes on the preview tab... not the most obvious place! razz

The tool tip would be very nice though & yeah sure the keyboard shortcut makes sense too.

Speaking of keyboard shortcuts... Any chance of adding keyboard shortcut of Space bar + left click & drag for dragging the preview contents around as an alternative to middle mouse button? My reason is because not everyone has access to middle mouse button (people using touchpads mostly).

@ Esmeralda - the top left snap thing was because images & animation positions are based on the top left pixel of the whole image. But you are correct that it's not always a good idea to have it snap. I don't think the coordinates tool-tip would be much use for non-snapped images though.

@AFRLme: you are right, the tool-tip is more useful if your image is snaped to the curor. But still I would find it convenient to see the position of the cursor when moving it. Yes, there is the menu bar, but as you said - strain on the old eyes (and mine are even older)...
