What do you mean by mouse input? you mean controlling the character, or just in general?

Quick note: you don't actually need the playable character to be on the current scene to access interfaces/inventory, etc. There just needs to be an active character for the game to work.

You can also tell the engine that the camera should follow x character via the center scene on character permanently action part.
