[solved] Looking for cooperator on indie SciFi project

  • #1, by Simon_ASAThursday, 29. December 2016, 12:21 7 years ago
    Hello everyone,

If you don't know me I'm Simon Mesnard (Simon Says: Watch! Play!), an indie developer from France who usually works on challenging Myst-like games with logical puzzles. Some of my previous games, made with VS, have become quite famous for the fans of the genre (ASA: A Space Adventure, Myha, Catyph). My series of scifi projects is continuously expanding. In 2017 there will be new games made in cooperation with other creators: Myha Remake with Unreal Engine, and another game developed in Unity. I'm opened to all cooperations.

You can learn more about the past projects in the Black Cube series here:
    http://www.theblackcube.fr

Recently I worked with The Icehouse (my collective of indie creators) and we hosted a Game Jam in the world of the Black Cube series. There has been 6 games created in 6 days for the occasion. Most of them are short and look like demos or prototypes - which is understandable in 6 days only!
You can find these games here: http://jams.gamejolt.io/blackcube2016/games

During this Game Jam I created a prototype named ATOS that you can see here, and download to play if you want:
    http://gamejolt.com/games/atos/217101

I have received some good feedback about this game (nice dark retro graphics, interesting ambiance, story rich project) and I would like to continue it, in order to plan a full commercial release on Steam.
Unfortunately I am working on another project already, and I am alone to do everything, so I'm very busy. It is more likely that I cannot continue ATOS in the current circumstances, and it would be a real shame to cancel it!

As a result I'm looking for a cooperator who could handle the programming/scripting part. I will still create the world, graphics, videos and texts, but the Visionaire part is a lot of work, so I'd apreciate it if someone accepted to do it for me.

You should be aware however that it is not a paid work... I have no funds, I am far from rich, and I don't think that we could succeed a Kickstarter with this game (even if I'm opened to discussion on this point). If you are interested in this project, you will have to work on it for free. But of course in the end the money earned will be split fairly. Like all my games, I will release it on Steam. I am managing the account of The Icehouse on Steam, and we already have 5 games there, which makes me comfident that we will continue to grow and get more exposure.

    To make long things short:
    - I want to cooperate in order to create project ATOS as a commercial indie game
    - I can work on everything (graphics, ideas, etc.) except...
    - ... except for the programming/engine part, where I am looking for a cooperator
    - The project is not paid, but we will split the sales (%)
    - A Steam release is possible
    - It is not my first game and I have many contacts (music, localization, etc)
    - I'm looking for a serious developer, motivated by scifi things, who knows VS well, with autonomy and availability (enough free time to work on the project)

Of course I'm opened to questions, ideas and suggestions (Kickstarter, voices, game length, release date, more info about the Black Cube series, etc.)
You can get in touch with me through my website
    http://www.simonmesnard.fr
by clicking on the contact link at the bottom.

Thanks for reading. I hope someone will be interested!
    Cheers
    -Simon

Sorry mate. Unfortunately I don't have the time to spare (other than sacrificing my me time) to work on any more royalty based projects. A Little Less Desperation for the most part has been royalty based & was a big gamble on my part & it quickly ended up taking up a large chunk of my time - a lot more time than I envisioned it taking for creating a demo due to unforseen circumstances, but whatever...

Anyway, no doubt I will still end providing the odd bit of support for both development & scripting as I have done for the past 2 games you've released. I'm all good as long as it's nothing too time consuming. wink

Good luck with finding someone to help out.

P.S: The guy who worked on your ASA remaster not around?

No problem Lee, I understand. Yes I hope someone else will be interested. I'm not looking for very high VS knowledge (no need to know LUA language - just be able to understand the scripts in the wiki and update them). I mainly seek for someone with free time to work with me.

The guy of ASA Remastered, Andy, is now part of Luminy Studios and is too busy unfortunately. They develop projects with Unity, and honestly I find it hard to find people who don't use this engine nowadays... (or Unreal)

Well if anyone wants to cooperate on my project ATOS with Unity, I accept too lol!
But VS comes first because I know to use it, and I have a basis of work that I can share (the game prototype).

Finally I will pause my "main project" and will work on ATOS on my own.

Unfortunately it's always hard to find supporters. Most people want to create their own game / realize their own ideas. ^^

Me too, but I lack artistic skills & the money to hire artists hence why I freelance for other peoples projects. Would love to make a game of my own... well, some day maybe... probably be when I'm all old & grey, but whatever! razz

You didn't find anyone via the facebook dev groups? reddit game dev classifieds or indiedb? Usually plenty of people on those things looking to help out for a bit of credit & for padding up their portfolios.

Ahah yes, unfortunately. However I was quite comfident when I first posted the announcement: I often see people around looking for projects (a graphist looking for a programmer, or the contrary). I think that's a solid project, but maybe it doesn't look appealing enough for the moment, which I can understand with the current version of the prototype shown.

Anyway, too late now, it's settled! That's going to be my next project officially so I don't accept anymore requests wink
That will be different of my previous Myst games and could be fun. We'll see!
Would love to make a game of my own...
Come on, let's do it! smile

Uh no, I didn't look there. The project was not ready enough for social networks I think. I'm just beginning to think of the way to build it, and i don't have much to show (except for the prototype made in 6 days and full of bugs)
I don't really feel at ease to seek on facebook dev groups. You never know who's going to answer, while I was really looking for VS users first - with a serious profile and enough free time.

To be honest someone contacted me here in PM, thanks again to this person, but I didn't see the message before today. The profile was very good, but I had taken my decision to do it alone... Too bad that I was not contacted by email a week ago.

If it's only at the beginning stages, then maybe just focus on the graphics for now. Maybe you can get a developer/scripter on board at a later date - though I suppose you can just go it alone as you seem to be planning to do. Either way, there's always options available at a later date - early days & all that. wink
