Hi! I was just lurking here for some time now, playing around with Visionaire from time to time and finally wanted to drop by to show you our first little adventure game, the
Neo Magazin Game Royale. It was just released (for free) for Windows, OSX, iOS and Android. Linux soon to follow.
We, the
btf, are a small company usually doing TV stuff, music videos and shortfilms. Since we all loved adventure games in our youth, we just wanted to give it a try. We never did anything like that before, so I thought it might be interesting to give a little insight in our production process.
The game is a classic retro-style Point-&-Click-Adventure based on our very own late night show, the
Neo Magazin Royale, which airs on german public TV channels ZDF and ZDFneo. As a player, you slip in the role of the show's host Jan Böhmermann and have to find his beloved sidekick, William Cohn, who went amiss just before the start of the show. Since the game was made for the fans of the show, we did it all in German, so it might be hard to follow for non-German speakers.
Some Data:– it is a short game, average playtime ranges between 45 and 120 minutes
– there are 10 rooms to explore (plus some more only used for cutscenes)
– one main character with around 600 lines of text, all recorded for voice output
– six additional characters with few text, but also recorded for voice output
– a lot of basic animations plus some special animations for the main character
– inventory with around 20 items
– a music score with 4 tracks, based on the show's main theme (inspired by DotT)
– sound design with around 150 soundfiles
– one introduction video (based on the original opening of the show)
– released for Windows, OSX, iOS and Android, Linux soon to follow
– download is free (

Team & Time:– engineering in Visionaire took around 8 weeks by 1 person (me)
– graphics and animations done by three artists in four weeks
– one week sound design by the sound engineer
– one week of composing the soundtrack
– two weeks of additional engineering and work on different platforms by 1 person
– some probably sleepless nights for the Visionaire developers doing a great support job!!!

thanks again, guys!We are quite pleased with the result, reviews and ratings are fantastic so far. But of course there are always things to improve and we still have a lot to learn. There are very few bugs on iOS, OSX and Windows. Most bugs occured on Android, but considering all the different devices and that it was the first Visionaire game released on Android (as far as I know), we are doing well.
