Mac OS notarization

    Hello to all,

I was wondering if anyone in this forums has undertaken the notarization process that will be required by Apple from the 14th of October along of course with the requirement of the application being 64bit? ( by the way, is this the case with visionaire?)

I found some info but this involves using Xcode. It would be great, if someone could provide some sort of guide on how you do this with a Visionaire export.

    Thanks

Someone else asked earlier on our discord server about the 64bit thing. It's apparently already 64bit because macOS dropped 32 bit support a couple or so updates back?

I don't really know much else. I'm primarily a windows user myself. I have a mac mini, but I don't use it very often.

Good to know that 64bit won't be an issue. It's the notarization thing, I'm not sure yet though. There are people who claim that it won't be required (for now at least) and others that it will and of course it will also require an App dev id (hence a 100 dollar per year subscription)

Apple always makes things a bit complicated.

I believe you need the app dev thing anyway, but that might only be if you want/plan to release on the apple store/app store itself?

Yeah apple do like making things complicated. My sister has an ipad - there's no usb input port on it. She has an iphone as well - she just replaced it with some cheap phone as the battery was draining constantly & it's apparently hard to open them up or something - I don't know. Personally I think apple products are over expensive flashy nonsense myself, but that's just my personal opinion.

Yes but who cares to publish on the Mac App store, really when there's Steam?

I like the Mac OS personally and in a few cases this rigid control that Apple  maintains has benefits but then again there all these things that make the platform difficult to publish for. I have worked on a few iOS projects in the past, in order to find my apps broken after each iOS update.

I know that feeling, published about 10 apps.

There's no need to notarize the software, that is only if you intend to distribute it outside the app store and your users don't want to right click / open. Not worth the hassle. If you want to sell in the app store, Apple will test your app and it does not need to be notarized, also you need to pay for the dev program.

Pheew that's a relief although I'm sure that it won't be the case for very long.
