How to do basic action ?

Hi everyone, I hope you will understand my english. (You can correct me, it should help me to progress haha) 
For a lot of you it should be a very basic question but I am very beginner and it's pretty hard for me. 
I want to take and used item in game, but I don't know how to do it. 

Simple exemple : 

I want to take a key (and so delete the template of the key when I take it); and after used it on a door to open it. How can I do that ?
