Hi. I wonder if it's possible to develope a first person adventure game in visionaire. Something like Myst. A game without a hero walking around the screen. Thanks.

First person adventures with static or scrollable screens (controlled by mouse) can be done very easily. I would even say it's easier than 3rd person adventures with a protagonist. But you can't use quicktime 3D movies in Visionaire therefore it won't be possible to create games like Myst 2-4. That means that you are restricted to screen to screen movement like Myst 1 or movie transitions like The 7th guest . It doesn't support 3D cubemaps and image distorsion when moving the view like quicktime.

Thanks, mowren. A game with a static screen is actually something I'm interested in. But it's a pity visionare doesn't support image distortion. I'd like to have a comic strip like picture as a transition between screens and telling the story. Like they have in Max Payne. I don't think it's a good idea to create a movie when you only need one picture. I actually think visionaire can do image distortion, but not as a built-in feature with an interface. It's should be possible to use some scripts. Gotta dig in smile

Comic strips like the ones in Max Payne are possible. You can do crossfades, animations and move pictures. With image distortion I meant the ability to skew and warp a 2D image in real time to make it look like your looking around in a 3D room.

something like this maybe? You can turn in 90 degree intervals, each standing point is one scene, and it switches background, a script controls which view to show, close ups and node changes are a new scene. I've got it so the first room was a template so the next rooms are fairly easy to create only one digit on the brief case works and you automatically get the object, right click inventory, you can't get passed the door wink

Thanks, Nigec. This is exactly what I have in mind. Now I'm sure Visionaire would be great for my project. Gotta start learning manual now.

GlenFX's tutorial is very useful wink I have another style which is more like a hidden objects game, which is easier, your just walking forward and back, the downside side of the one I've shown you is animation in one of the standing views will be very difficult if you want to see the other version I'll find the link or if you wanna see how I did the full 90 degree turn I can share the project without the music, I'm not using the graphics anyway lol

    here you go: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26539256/Zep_VS.zip

It'll probably be confusing if you don't know much about VS

Each view is a scene object (front, back, left, right), to turn left of right the buttons call a script in scene properties to check which view visable, it hide that and unhide the next, hotspots also have conditions to switch them on and off if it isn't supposed to be there in that view..

You need to make sure as you leave one scene you force the previous scene back to its forward view as it can go out of sync

the hardest part is placing hotspots, I found the best way to do the door was to add the image for the door object, draw the object area then remove the image

technically there is a character in the scene, but has no graphics, you must define one otherwise you can't enter anything, do dialog etc

Anyway if you have any questions feel free to ask smile
