Change animation speed

    Hello,

I am creating a game with a friend of mine. She did the walking animation from the main character with After Effects (I have no idea of that program).
I then got the frames for the walking animation in the character menu.

It's 41 frames, which is probably pretty long.

I set the character speed to 2000, because I feel like that's a pretty nice and fast pace.

But I cant figure out how to set up the animation fitting to that. it's too slow right now.
The Character slides over the ground.

How could I solve this issue?

    Thanks in advance!

Setting up animations is a fine balance between the amount of frames used & the delay/pause value you set in the properties section (little cog icon) for the animation.

Your walk animation should be something along the lines of 4-14 frames. Curse of Monkey Island used 4 frames per direction. 14 is probably better for a smoother more natural looking walk animation. The pause value between frames you will need to experiment to see what looks best.

In regards to the sliding, it's because you are using the default walk system which slides the characters position to the next between each frame. There's an alternative walk system which updates the position on each animation frame, but it's much more work to setup & is meant for realistic walk animations where the characters contact foot remains in the same place while the other foot/leg moves. I believe I put an example/diagram up on the wiki in regards to the walking stuff - don't remember where though.

was it? I thought it had 4 frames? maybe I'm mixing games up - or I could have been thinking of directions.

it's possible with 4, but end results won't be great. 7 frames monkey 1 &/or 2 seemed to use. 12+ is better for smoothness. Either way, if you play with the delay/pause for the animation you can make animations with very little frames look reasonably ok because the frames change fast enough that the player doesn't notice there's x frames instead of 100's per animation. The general idea is to use the least amount possible for optimization reasons.
