What Resolution? (artwork/game default res)

You should ideally have a default resolution of 1920x1080, 1280x720 or 640x480, which are the 3 typical hd resolutions

    Hey, I don't know that 640x480 is a HD resolution... ;-) ;-)

Btw: painting a background much bigger temps to make too much details. After resizing the picture seems overloaded. You have to paint as you should be in the final size after downsizing, that means: making all lines thicker, all colours stronger, enough space between lines and points, less grey shadings and so on. It's like making a stamp: the Mona Lisa on 2x3 cm should be a different Mona Lisa than on 200x300 cm...

    480p (standard)
    720p (hd)
    1080p (full hd)
no idea what 4k is classed as... super mega turbo hd?

& yeah, you are right... creating images at double then downsizing isn't that good as they will contain artifacts & your game may get further scaled down or up again due to the display resolution that the person playing your game is using, which will also generate additional artifacts.

P.S: it's possible to make scrollable scenes by creating them higher / wider than the default game resolution.

P.P.S: it's not advisable to create scenes that are smaller than your game default resolution.

P.P.P.S @ dorobo: thanks for digging up my first ever embarrassing post on this forum. 4 bloody years ago. Damn, time doesn't half fly by!

(I just realised this was an old post haha, but I'll post this anyway for anyone who might want help anyway)

Its not necessarily true that when painting in 4k and bringing it down makes it more "overloaded" it really doesn't become an issue until you start downsizing it below HD. I paint most of Paradigms backgrounds at 2-5 times the size depending. This is so down the line I can make posters or whatever.

However of course the downside to this is that you may end up rendering small things that you barely notice since you can zoom in so much. So really up to your discretion how far you want to take it. Some backgrounds In Paradigm I paint in 1920x1080 because I know I wont need a poster of it. Makes the workflow slightly faster too so I don't need to worry about downsizing when exporting into visionaire.
