    graphics look quite fun smile

are you using Kickstarter for funding?

if you do a decent pitch on there I reckon you wouldn't have any issues gaining funding +++ for voice actors & whatever else you need - games that public like what they see, hear about it tend to get more than whatever base fund target is set wink

Oh & I found the rights text at the bottom of your website amusing ...

This website haz been authorized by peeple of Soviet Union and great mother Russia. All reclimationz are crimes againzt people's wills and capitaliztig plots against our nation.

    grin

The problem with Kickstarter I heard is that I need to put up a company of my own and the legal issues here in Finland. I would need to bank account to UK or USA and avoid finnish police asking about why I'm begging.

But I've been interested of Kick Starter from the very start despite of bureaucracy. Glad you liked the site, I'll make sure to update website as new member joins as a coder and we get workflow going toward getting alpha stage started.

issues with begging? start a company?

    haha - over-thinking it mate.

the idea behind kickstarter is that general public pledge money to you to help fund your project - in return they get something back - you set what they get based on amounts you allow user to pledge/donate.

good thing about kickstarter is that the money is returned to the individuals who pledged/donated money if the base goal amount is not reached within the date/time limit you set - or you can cancel & return funds if you decide to wihdraw your project.

kickstarter themselves do not take any of the money pledged/donated unless the project is successfully funded.

additionally if you reach the base fund target well in advance of the limit you can set additional bonus targets which could be for getting text/subtitles or voice in other languages than the VO or maybe support for other platform devices; ios/android/xbla/mac etc - although other platform support is not currently available until the next release of Visionaire Studio - according to what I've heard/been told wink

either way I'm looking forward to seeing how your project turns out smile

*** P.S: in regard to bank account - use paypal - there is also options to create business/merchant accounts to allow larger funds as default limit is something like 2k €/$ etc if I remember correctly.

Ah didn't meant it to sound like theory. I was told in game dev. meeting that this is an actual problem here in Finland. There was audiobook project here that got police coming after it for illegal begging. Plus they also told me that Kickstarter itself doesn't support Finland as an region either. Haven't yet done background search on the matter however...

But yes most definitely I would love to Kick start this game for some quality voice work! Maybe additional paid sound work too.

bloody hell - sounds shitty roll

I don't really know anything much about Finland ... sound like it need to get on the overthrow the government train like many of the other countries are currently doing razz

I wouldn't call it begging per say as you have to give them something in return; the final product when it's done, their names in the credits, t-shirt or whatever based on amount donated.

so you can't say set up a forum & have people donate to it via paypal?

well all I've said is irrelevant if you're not allowed but still - it must be useful information for someone wink

*Noddity nod nod* I will most likely try and Kick Start this thing regardless. After all we won't be talking about huge sum in total and since voices are the only thing that will actually cost in production (maybe little advertising too?).

I'll let you guys know the instant game is ready for Kick Starting.

have you done all artwork & so on yourself?

I would do my own if I could - well probably could - but it would take me 5 million years for me to attempt it myself so I plan on giving the task to other people so I can concentrate on the planning, writing, organizing, design, code side of things - I have plenty of music producer & audio engineer friends so that side is covered - I'm hoping I can get a couple of character/background artists to take a leap of faith as in pro-bono at first so I have something to show to be able to begin raising funds & get permission to make the game. - the latter being the thing everything I'm doing will hinge upon! wink

will the game be in English?

Yes I am currently only person working on project. We have a meeting with a coder tomorrow about him joining the project. Done some composing (20+ songs), lots and lots of design and writing plus all artwork (54 rooms out of 60 done). This holiday I start work on animated cutscenes as game is nearing alpha stage, that means it's playable from start to end but needs lots and lots of polishing.

Game will be in English but I was advised to localize in German. I wonder why wink

indeed - hehe - seems the p+c genre is really popular in Germany & I have yet to find out why!

could always get text & subs translated into German - finding voice actors to do German parts would be hard unless you speak German or know any German speaking voice actors.

I think p+c games are quite popular here, in Spain too? - well besides fps games that is!

as for us Brits it's more of a retro fascination & most likely only for those of us, who were brought up playing various lucas arts, sierra, delphine soft made games.

sounds like you've done a load of work already smile

I'm currently working on the story script which is an adaption on a book - which I will not name atm - & I've also been working on police style sketch descriptions to hand over to a character artist when I find one besides also learning VS engine, LUA script, helping on here etc.

I've nearly got a finished rough draft menu which I will be sharing on here as a template. full works - read/write config.ini, advanced save/load/delete menu, bonus content & so on ... minus actual menu images & animations.

should help people out on here; providing they can wrap their heads around all the global conditions, values & call by other action stuff - I use a lot of them!

And evaluating the process of voiceacting or the quality would be impossible for me as I don't know anything about German as a language. Anyhow that's not my biggest worry really =)

Whoah the menu thing sounds awesome. Haven't yet even began to think all the interface things I need to do. But I'd imagine that's one of the last things I will be doing as I started the game way I did. Today I will be meeting with new team member and we figure out what he begins his work with. Who know, could be the menu? grin
