Pixelart-Background for Test

Well, here is a background i created for using AGS. As you can see its the inside of a store. Looking empty, buts not because its in a communist country. Its because i wanted to think, how i figure goods in the shelf.

I used for this purpose the good old paint. And there just the 20 colours which the programm provides. I dont wanted to get a colour-overflow and wanted it very basic and clear. With dimensions i wasnt sure. I wanted 320x240 Pixel like in retro-games. I scanned a template and edited it.

Looks nice EGA. I think Sierra would have given me a chance back in the 80s. :-D But to improve my skills i need your advice, please.

    - Which programm is best for pixelart? - How i scale and edit a scanned template with best results? - To what i have to care more while drawing? - How i put objekts in the room? For example there are 5 bottles of booze and the mainfigure can take 3 of em and they disappear on screen.

Thank you for your help! smile Christian

    Yo dude,

To answer a few of your questions.

Best program: Whatever you feel mots comfortable with. However personally I use PS as it has everything that you might need and more. Although there are plenty of more focused programs out there, which some people consider are better.

Best way to scan and edit? Depends what you're doing and what program you are using to be honest. What you're doing is fine, however I would recommend trying out a more specialised program then paint (like photoshop) It will help you out in the long run.

As to what you need to care about drawing. Honestly just start practicing and draw from life as much as you can. However probably the best thing for you at the moment is to learn about perspective. A really good book is perspective for what its worth, probably the best book out there about learning the basics grin

The last question I'm not so sure exactly what you are asking. However I believe you want the character to pick up the objects? Best way is to go and check out the tutorials on youtube man, or just google "Visionaire Tutorial" And walk yourself through them. This is the best way to learn.

Anyway good luck man, great start grin

Thanks and thank you for your suggestions. smile

Already im using Gimp for my Pixelart. Its a bit inconvinvient, for example doing lines and bow lines. Its not so intuitive to use as Paint. It would be better to open more toolboxes to work on you need.

Yes i like to paint a picture and scan it and after that i like to edit the pic. They've done it great in Monkey Island II. Other game devolpers did it also great, but there was bad implementations, too. So i like to know exactly how the working process is in this case.

Yes perspectives are wrong...i have to set vanishing point, etc. Liked also playing around with crooked perspektive like in DOTT.

Well i take a look to the youtube tutorials.

I improved my style during last week and made some pixel-art from templates. wink

Thanks for advice. I checked out an older version of aseprite. Seems to be a nice additional tool for doing sprites and scanning painted backgrounds. Would going deeper into the tool and find out how it work and the differences to the payment version.
