What developments are you planning for Mystery of Oak Island? :)

    Hi there!
I think it's great that the very own Visionaire Adventure Game was kickstarted. Apart from getting a great Game i think it will also benefit the Engine and Editor immensely. It reminds me of the Open Movie Concept that the Blender Foundation does: they produce a short film and work out new features and advancements in the Software to suit the practical Needs.

Any hints in what area we might expect some developments for the future? smile

    Thanks a lot!

Do you mean in regards to the engine? A whole new make-over is planned, but nothing is guaranteed.

In general, the plan is: new gui. more pre-made actions (for non-scripters). better workflow. more stable.

Will it be compatible with the data from the previous versions of visionaire? Sounds like a big change.

I believe that Alex always wants VS to be back compatible for each new build / version. Personally I think that for each new .x version that it shouldn't need to be 100% back compatible & that it should be up to the existing customers to choose to finish their games in previous point x build they own or upgrade to new .x & start fresh.

If the .x builds (I'm talking about for example 3.7.1 to 4.0) didn't need to be back compatible then it would let the developers write off the old useless or out of date systems & replace them from the ground up with something that is more flexible & workflow efficient.

Back compatible = less chance of improving existing features to modern standards, which is why we are stuck with certain features / systems that belong back in the dark ages.

P.S: these potential (non-guaranteed) improvements / features have nothing to do with Oak Island really. All Thomas has that you don't is the Team builds, which usually only contain minor bug fixes & features.

Thomas is nagging me about the new editor, so it's quite a point wink Visionaire will always be able to update old game files.

Well, I'd say that we get some improvements because I am in pretty close contact with the programmers. Simon lives not far from here and we have regular chats and meetings. I made a graphical concept for the new editor that simon is currently working on... and I always underline the need of some improvements (for example in the character movement). So... I'm sure that Oak Island is good even for the engine development. smile
