    I like how the new site is evolving since the first release shortly. The Updates and bugfixes are very fast and the new site looks very clean and easy to navigate because - in contrast to the old website version - everything is there where a new visitor would expect it to be

    the manual book will be completed in some time, soon I hope so newbies can use it  smile

    @ site size at 1280x resolution: I guess Marvel can fix this very easily. Should be some CSS tweaks to let the design reduce its size earlier... Don't know if the site is based on a framework like twitter bootstrap or some kind of stuff, but even if not it should be done within a short time...

    @ screenshots on engine page : cool but oooooold. Win XP and Vs3 could create the wrong impression to a visitor...

    The old forum was just a forum without social network functios. There were no modern user profiles, no responsive display, no download center, no videos possible, no picture upload, et cetera. I can't see that the old forum was better in any way... wink Regarding the "usability" I just can say that it is maybe a subjective thing. What makes it better from your point of view?

    I for myself enjoy big font-sizes and a clear layout. And I already said that the categories will come.

    Classic phpBB forums (and similar products) are also responsive nowadays and have modern looking templates. You can upload images as well (I don't know about embedding videos). Speaking of usability, I miss (for example):

    • subforums for different topics (okay, categories seem to be on their way)
    • possibility to jump directly to the latest post of a thread
    • see my unread posts (and possibility to jump there)
    • see in which threads I have posted
    • preview a post before submitting (even if you have a WYSIWYG editor)
    • display the name of the user who has been quoted

    Small things maybe, but they have become standard features through the years, because they turned out to work well and enhanced the usability. Or as AFRLme put it: existing forums usually already have all the features you will ever need.

    By the way: the responsiveness of the current website is limited. There is a phone resolution and one for big screens. It doesn't work well in-between (using FF).

    After all, I have to admit, that I haven't visited the Visionaire site often lately. So you might better not consider me part of the main target audience.

    And before sounding too negative here: the website looks much better than before. Better structured and clear!

    einzelkämpfer, I think these are small functions and I already mentioned in this thread before, that most of the "missing" things will come. smile

    It is just normal that companies build their own solutions, that fit to their needs. This is not a simple forum but a developing social community platform for game developers. Yes, we could have chosen PHPBB as a forum... but what then? We would have a forum, but no shop, no downloads, no upcoming "game project base", no social manual, etc. Short term: The limitation of a custom forum makes no sense for us / is not compatible to our needs.

    It is our philosophy to build things on our own and we are having fun to do so. Based on this philosophy Visionaire Studio once was born and is developing to this very day. smile

    @Nige: Ah right you are then. Does anyone still use Internet Explorer in this day & age as their primary browser?
    I still use IE as my main browser, I find it better than FF, my wife uses Chrome
    FF seems to have quirks with online games that IE and Chrome don't have, but with decent broadband any speed advantage isn't that obvious.
    I'm more or less got into the habit of visitng here with FF, in the past there's a lot of times I've replied and the send button didn't work with the old forum and IE and thought "oh f....!!" and never bothered reposting with ff lol

    @ Marvel: Not now, but it did yesterday or the day before.

    @ Nige: No idea what it is about internet explorer, but I've never liked it. I also hated having to use Netscape explorer thing back when I was in highschool. I like firefox because I can install various extensions I like such as "adblock plus", "enhanced steam", "delete bookmark icons" & "stylish", etc. Oh & that "greasemonkey" thing comes in handy sometimes too as does the built firefox developer tools - I know Chrome has them built in as well.

    @Marvel: To fix the problem for those "small size monitor people" may the .row class has to be updated to snap for 1280px or even smaller sizes and not just mobile/HD Screens.
    Like

    @media (min-width: 1200px) {
     .row { max-width: 1170px;
      }

     @media (min-width: 992px) {
      .row { max-width: 970px;
      }

    etc
    Those smaller sizes may have to get a reduced header (only VS logo without font?) because the header links get stacked then (tested in browser while inspecting elements and playing around a bit).

    also while i am writing this... I miss the buttons for "code" and "quote" Also the "code" tag seems to insert really weird div-stuff. Could break the design (just happened)

    @Sebastian: We already fixed the display of 1280er resolutions. Usually it should work already.

    The Code/Quote Function is not perfect this way and we know it. Let's see if we can fix the problem. wink

    @machtnix welche Auflösung hast du? kannst du mal ein Screenshot mit 100% zoom machen?
    normalerweise passt sich das Design der breite des Bildschirms an...

    Ich habe 1280 x 1024. Eigentlich wäre die Breite somit ausreichend, nur die Schrift im Forum ist dann einfach zu klein. Ich muss die Seite deshalb mit strg+ größer zoomen (Screenshot geht gerade nicht - meine Verbindung ist lahm wie Sau). Der Avatar-Balken links ist weit über 9 cm breit, also quasi ein Fünftel der Gesamtbreite - das ist einfach zu viel verschenkter Platz.
    Das Einloggen ist übrigens noch langsamer geworden (hat über 30 Minuten gedauert). Und ich werde immer noch jedesmal ausgeloggt.

    Ich habe jetzt CSS ausgesschaltet - dann ist die Schrift schön linksbündig und lesbar und alle zu hellen Farben sind weg. :-)

    PS: "Speichern" wirkt auf mich missverständlich, weil es ja auch Foren gibt, die zwischen "Speichern" (automatisches Zwischenspeichern des Textes) und "Absenden" (Hochladen auf den PHP-Server zum öffenstlichen Lesen) unterscheiden. Speichern und Absenden ist nicht dasselbe.
